Job description
In this role, you will provide Engineering Support to the Microsoft Technology Center (MTC). This MTC provides customized solutions based on Microsoft and partner technologies. There are three major types of engagements performed here: 1 day strategy briefings, 2-3 day architectural design sessions and multi-week proof-of-concept workshops. The MTC also hosts a training room with up to 20 workstations. The multi-week proof-of-concept (POC) workshops give customers the ability to work side-by-side with key members of the MTC technical staff to transfer knowledge and develop proof-of-concepts for customer solutions. To facilitate the multi-week engagements the MTC's dedicate a customer lab consisting of between 6 to 10 workstations configured specifically based on the solutions development requirements. The server(s), SAN(s) and high-speed network infrastructure equipment, provided by the MTC Global Technology Partners, is located in the MTC server display center (SDC). This equipment is configured per customer engagement to allow secure access to a combination of commodity, 32bit and 64bit (x64 and IA64) servers as well as storage (SAN via Fiber Channel and/or iSCSI or Direct Attached Storage) in a dedicated virtual network (VLAN). The Siemens engineers will spend a significant amount of their time assisting with the management and configuration of the equipment in the SDC, POC labs and the Training Room.
Responsibilities include:Configuration of lab space and workstations for all proof-of-concept engagements using Windows Deployment Services (WDS) and/or SCCM.Configuration of VLANs that are dedicated to labs and virtual proof-of-concept engagements.
Configuration and maintenance of all equipment in SDC including commodity services such as APC air and APC power.
Configuration and maintenance of Avocent KVM over IP equipment.
Configuration and maintenance of DELL and HP x86/x64/IA64 rack mounted and blade servers.
Configuration and maintenance of EMC, HP, XioTech and NetApp SAN equipment.
Configuration and maintenance of QLogic, Emulex, and Brocade SAN switches and HBAs.
Monitoring Health and Performance of SDC infrastructure to ensure service availability and SLAs.
Creation and maintenance of O/S images.
Interaction with clients, during their POC or training session visits, to ensure support is given in the event that configuration changes of hardware and/or software are needed.
Maintenance of relationships with MTC Global Technology Partners.
Member of on-call team for catastrophic SDC events which could require 24x7 after hour's on-site response.
Ongoing documentation of environment and processes.
