Job description
- Work in a production environment to ensure 24x7 operations of backup systems and processes
- Daily trouble shooting and resolution of backup failures
- Administer backup environments to monitor and manage enterprise data management processes.
- Monitor backup processes and errors to ensure overall system performance and stability.
- Monitor daily backup operations to insure they are available for Data and Disaster Recovery.
- Provide support to technical/non-technical customers for restore support.
- Provide on-call assistance for data center operations.
- As DR and Backup/Recovery Administrator you will be expected to resolve complex problems in a team environment, working pro-actively with Server Administrators, Network Engineering, and Data
- Center Operations personnel.
- Conform to and support systems management disciplines including change management, problem management, asset management, and systems documentation.
- Assist in reporting for capacity planning, growth forecasting, and performance analysis.
- Ensure that the proper planning and testing have been carried out to facilitate the timely recovery to normal business operations, including relocation to an alternate facility
- May provide guidance to and assist in the training of less experienced staff; provides hardware/software training as required
- Maintain industry/technical knowledge base and facilitate /maintain industry relationships
- Participate in disaster recovery testing strategies in accordance with the business needs through initiation, planning, execution, controlling, and completion. This role will cover the entire DR life cycle
Desired profile
- 5 years of experience in Data Protection environment
- 3 years of recent daily hands-on support & administration EMC Avamar and Networker. Preferably 6.x or higher
- Familiar with replication on Data Domain and Avamar or similar systems
- Understand the concept of Data Protection, Archive, Performance Tuning, policy creation & modification
- Ability to define policies, schedules, retentions, and backup sets
- Able to communicate DR related concepts to a broad range of technical and non-technical staff
- Secondary Skill: Any of these backup tools ( CommVault, NetBackup, TSM)
- Bachelor's degree is preferred. Technical experience will be considered in place of a degree
