Intern Digital Transformation - Data Science

 

Minimum Qualifications:

·  Currently a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Technology, Engineering, Math or related fields
·  Minimum GPA: 3.0

 

As a Data Science intern, you will be using Big Data to execute research and analytics, including data source identification, processing, model/algorithm development, visualization and basic storytelling. 

 

The ideal candidate is an unabashed data enthusiast. You enjoy searching for datasets that you can explore and mashup to tell interesting stories. You view the skills you have at sourcing, collecting, and cleaning data as a means to an end. It is probable that you have developed these skills through a combination of education, work experience and hobbies. If this describes you, we are interested. You will be an integral part of a small, cross-disciplinary team working on highly visible projects that improve performance and grow our services.

 

What you’ll do

·  Help develop and evaluate models and algorithms to solve critical business problems
·  Work with teams cross-functionally to explore and understand our data and business needs
·  Identify, collect, and work with large amounts of structured and unstructured data, including text data
·  Establish links across existing data sources and find new, interesting mashups
·  Perform data pre-processing and analyze data for use in an applied machine learning context
·  Generate, compile and discuss data findings; draw conclusions and make recommendations
·  Create credibility with leaders and stakeholders by presenting data clearly and concisely, creating informative visualizations that intuitively display large amounts of data and/or complex relationships.

·  Student who is pursuing (or has just completed) a degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science or has had extensive exposure to the skills presented in this description

What technical skills do you have

·  Coursework: 
·  Must - Completed coursework in basic analytics as well as database design and structure.
·  Plus - Coursework (or work experience) involving data mining, machine learning, building algorithms, applied math and statistics
·  Coding: 
·  Must - Proficiency in Python and/or R, particularly for application on large data sets. You should be comfortable writing code. The better you are at it, the more efficiently you can explore the model space and find winning ideas.
·  Plus - Knowledge of scientific stacks (in Python: NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn,…)
·  Plus - Programming using any of the following: C#, C++, Java, JS, HTML, Spring boot, shell scripting
·  Machine Learning / Algorithms: 
·  Must - Basic knowledge of machine learning methods (i.e., familiarity with some of the following: linear regression, logistic regression, naive Bayes, etc.)
·  Plus - Experience with advanced Machine Learning / Deep Learning methods (DNN / TensorFlow, RNN, …)
·  Databases: 
·  Must - Experience with SQL modeling and usage
·  Plus - Experience with NoSQL technologies and models
·  Other: 
·  Must - Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (especially excel)
·  Must - Basic concepts around data visualization and report development
·  Plus - Experience and advanced capabilities on data visualization; exposure to BI suites and products (TIBCO SpotFire, Google Data Studio, Power BI)
·  Plus - Knowledge of Agile Methodologies
·  Plus - Hadoop Administration + Development in Kafka, Spark, Hive, HBase
·  Plus - Experience with public cloud environments (ideal: GCP, AWS, Azure)
