About the role:
The High-Performance Computing, Artificial Intelligence & Quantum Business unit of Eviden is looking for a professional in High Performance Computing and/or large Linux-based infrastructures. In this role within the HPC team, this person will be responsible for system integration and implementation services, with a focus on the UK but including Northern Europe.
We are looking for a senior Linux specialist to join us and assist the team with the deployment and support of HPC systems. Our ideal candidate has experience within an HPC environment; however, we are open to considering profiles with no prior HPC experience, but with a very strong Linux background.
You are a curious and passionate person, keen to learn and improve the design and usability of our solutions. You like to be challenged and take the lead in demanding conditions. You will have the freedom to implement any kind of solution you see fit for the situation, since a high degree of customization is possible within the specific domain’s limits.
The position is based in the UK, with the option to work remotely. The successful candidate will work with the manager of the HPC, AI & Quantum Project Delivery in Northern Europe. Candidate must be eligible and willing to undergo DV level security clearance. Must be UK citizen and have lived and worked in the UK for 10 years.
Responsibilities:
· Deliver and support the installation of the most powerful supercomputers across Europe.
· Integration and implementation services to build large high performance computing solutions; analyse solution components, understand systems integration challenges.
· Testing and/or evaluating system components, prototyping features, and collaborating with solution architects to define architectural requirements for high-end HPC clusters.
· Level 2 Software Support of HPC customers during installation & implementation.
· Performance tuning and testing of systems.
· Installation support, troubleshooting and optimization activities.
· Work on diagnostic and debugging of sophisticated HPC HW and SW issues, proposal of workarounds when applicable.
· Identify technology gaps in current components that must be resolved to reach future performance targets and functionality requirements.
· Escalation within support organization when needed.
· Knowledge transfer to the local HPC team and customers.
· Contribution to pre-installation and cluster staging at our factory in Angers (FR).
Core Mandatory Skills
· Good mastery of Linux OS (RedHat / Debian based).
· Good knowledge of server hardware.
· Networking specific skills (TCP/IP stack, 40Gb, InfiniBand).
· Containerization (Kubernetes, Docker, Podman (or similar)).
· Configuration management tools (Ansible, Puppet).
· Cluster Management software
· Job Schedulers / Workload managers (PBSpro, Slurm).
· Parallel filesystems technologies (Lustre, Spectrum Scale/GPFS, BeeGFS).
· Deep knowledge in HPC cluster environment and ecosystem.
· Scripting skills: Bash and / or Python.
· Solid networking and security concepts.
· Proactive and not afraid to take charge.
· Interested in working in an internationally oriented environment.
Desired but not essential
· Virtualization platforms (OpenStack or plain KVM).
· Storage platforms (Ceph).
· Code control (GIT).
· Monitoring (Icinga, Prometheus, Grafana).
· Strong interpersonal skills and integrity to interact directly with customer sites contacts, project managers and technical colleagues, and other key partners.
