Control Systems Support Engineer Role Description

Background

Atos Worldgrid are finalising a Long Term Support contract with EDF Energy for the Data Processing and Control System that AWG built and commissioned at the Dungeness B nuclear power station.
Part of this contract will be a permanent on-site control systems support engineer, who will work alongside EDFE colleagues and report to Atos Worldgrid.
This is a specialist role for which the team in Grenoble would like Atos WFM in the UK to help find some suitable candidates.

Control System Support Engineer Job Description

As part of the Long Term Support arrangements for the Data Processing and Control System installed by Atos at EDF Energy’s nuclear power plant at Dungeness B, Atos are looking for a self-motivated support engineer with good communication skills to work at the power station alongside EDF Energy support engineers. They will report both to onsite EDFE staff and offsite Atos staff, who will based in the Atos Worldgrid nuclear operations COE in Grenoble, France.
The role will require performing regular system maintenance across a variety of platforms including:
• HP Unix physical boxes,
• Linux
• RedHat,
• Windows
at the hardware and operating system (sysadmin) level

Knowledge will be gained of the SCADA based human machine interface (termed level 2) and the PLC scanner interfacing with the plant (termed Level 1) which is based on ABB/Westinghouse technology (training will be provided on site and also in Grenoble for a short period and there is extensive documentation)

First assignment consists in learning about the system architecture and to follow very detailed procedures to diagnose and maintain the system in its operationnal state.
The engineer will be expected to perform first level diagnosis of faults found, logging faults into a ticket management system and to liaise with off-site technical specialists to further assist in fault finding/ resolution as required
The engineer would assist with the installation of software releases and performing Site Acceptance Testing with the ability to follow detailed written instructions precisely

Depending on the candidate preferences, the second assignment is to participate to the onsite and offsite activities listed below in relationship with back-office team:
•Software development, Unit and Integration tests (ADA, C, Specific Dataset, PLC programming, Perl, Python, Labview)
•Undertaken Hardware obsolescence studies and subsequent implementation actions
•Hardware diagnosis, repair and/or replacement
•Keeping system in its operational state
•Asset management update
•System release site testing
•Obsolescence studies/treatment

Profil

The candidate will need to hold or pass at least the CTC level of security clearance, SC is preferred.
Due to the restricted physical access to the plant rooms the candidate will need to be fit and able-bodied. The candidate will need to hold a valid UK driving licence. An ideal candidate will have experience of working in an industrial environment and with maintaining modern control systems.
The candidate will first follow a 3 month skills ramp up and integration period in Grenoble. Then progressively integrate his first assignment in the current of 2018.
