Position/Title:
Nurse Clinical Documentation Improvement Professional
Essential Functions: The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
· Demonstrate an understanding of complications, co-morbidities, severity of illness (SOI), risk of mortality (ROM), case mix, secondary diagnosis, impact of procedures on the final DRG, and an ability to impart this knowledge to physicians and other members of the healthcare team.
· Maintain current knowledge of trends, regulations and technology related to coding, reimbursement and clinical documentation through professional journals, informal networks, internet sites and local, state, and national professional associations.
· Supports the organization's efforts to ensure quality outcomes are achieved. Functions as a clinician, educator, researcher and consultant to quality, coding, clinical documentation and medical/nursing staff.
· Good working knowledge of ICD-10. Knowledge of Local Medicare Review Policies. Exposure to encoder software. Keeps current with federal legislation, periodicals and publications establishing current coding/reimbursement compliance.
· Leverages patient data, clinical documentation and evidenced based guidelines to improve outcomes for patients.
· Maintains responsibility for communicating, educating and coaching physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding patient quality of care as it pertains to mortality.
· Serve as an expert related to the latest research and evidence-based guidelines for analyzing data to understand mortality trends.
· Knowledge in clinical quality and CMS quality measures with focus on mortality. Essential Functions: Analyzes patient data, clinical documentation and outcomes. Monitors and reports on trends surrounding condition management issues that includes compliance with evidenced based guidelines.
· Conducts ongoing review and education on trends related to quality, safety and documentation.
· Demonstrates effective skills in all forms of communication especially with clinical staff, coding staff, clinical leadership and coding leadership.
· Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, accrediting agencies, Atos Digital Health Solution’s Standards of Conduct, Code of Ethics, as well as, other policies and procedures to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.
· Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Required Education:At a minimum Associates Degree in Nursing (ASN), Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
· Required Work Experience: Acute/critical care nursing experience (minimum 3 years). In addition, minimum of 3 years workingwith a Clinical Documentation Improvement Program.
· Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice required.
· Must have at least one of these certifications at time of employment: Certified Clinical Documentation Specialist(CCDS)issued by the Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists(ACDIS)or Certified Documentation Improvement Practitioner(CDIP)issued by The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
· Must have a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)issued by The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
