Job description

We are seeking motivated individuals to join our team of Broadcast Systems Engineers working within our Central Communications Area/Master Control Room. The CCA acts as the gateway between the BBC and 3rd party outside broadcast providers as well as the gateway between the 18 BBC regions across the UK and the CNCT for the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
 
You will be responsible for managing a wide range of broadcast infrastructure to interconnect the BBC estate with regional centres as well as with 3rd parties and fulfilling around 600 connectivity bookings per day. This will be achieved through remote configuration of broadcast systems including three geographically diverse satellite teleports.
Practical elements:
Occasional accessing, lifting and installation of hardware around technical apparatus rooms to maintain and restore systems to normal operation.
Ability to make critical assessment of television pictures, waveforms and sound. This requires normal colour vision and hearing.
To undertake duties in broadcast technical areas providing support of broadcast critical services to Atos clients in the Technology, Media and Telecoms sector.
Accountable to the local Senior Engineer for operation and maintenance of broadcast systems in support of a busy master control room and satellite teleports.
Broadcast Systems Engineers are required to work to the highest level of technical complexity under programme and/or operational pressures.
 
This role will  be a Full time – 24/7 shift pattern

Desired profile

Essential
Ability to make critical assessment of television pictures, waveforms and sound.
Qualified broadcast engineer with relevant knowledge and experience of vision, sound, communications, networks and computer systems as they relate to the Broadcast Engineering environment.
Experience of working in an engineering capacity in a 24/7 broadcast critical environment.
Understanding of Broadcast delivery standards and modulation techniques, e.g. DVB, SDI, SDH, etc.
Able to troubleshoot and fault find on live broadcast systems through use of technical drawings, documentation and engineering principles.
Excellent communication skills: Fluent English both written and verbal.
Desirable
Ability to build relationships, negotiate and influence with key stakeholders;
Is able to understand, explain and present complex technical ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences
