Barnet Switchboard Operator

This is a part time rolebased in Barnet.

NIGHT SHIFT - Working hours: Tuesdayto Friday11pm – 6am; 28 hours per week.

To provide a professional operator service, acting as the common interface for internal and external callers within the Trust environment. Answer all calls in a professional, courteous and efficient manner and be responsible for ensuring that all calls are connected to the desired destination.

To adopt a flexible approach to customer and management requests as required.

To report all operator/network alarms to the Atos Helpdesk in a timely manner.

DUTIES:

· To perform operators duties on the HiPath switchboard within the procedures laid down and familiarise oneself with these procedures.

· To perform the emergency procedures laid down in the event of any alarm call being made e.g. Cardiac Arrest Calls, Fire Alarms, Major Incident Alerts

· To provide cover for sickness and annual leave as and when required, for day and night shifts

· To assist customer representatives in logging telephone faults etc to the Atos Telephone Helpdesk

· To monitor alarms for Blood Fridges, Medical Gases, Fire, Estates and Security

· To issue Cardiac Arrest calls, Fire and Security calls via Blick Paging Console

· Recording details of Major Incident, following Communication Cascade as laid down in Major Incident File

· To records amendments to Trust and Metier Duty Rotas as and when required

· To programme Click internal pagers as required

· To conduct test procedures for all internal speech pagers twice daily via Blick console

· To record daily log of events and daily testing

· To contact Trust staff via the appropriate system of aircall, internal pager or mobile telephone

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

· Previous experience in a hospital environment desirable but not essential

· Keyboard skills with workingknowledge of PC software packages desirable

· Experience working in a customer facing environment desirable

COMPLEXITY AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK:

· Switchboard work is repetitive and routine but always under pressure at peak times.

· Need to be alert to new problems and occasionally important decisions to be made.

· All faults that occur need to be reported in a timely manner and escalated as necessary

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Day to day supervision is provided by the Switchboard Services Manager or nominated member of the team

As the Switchboard is a 24hr Managed Service and there is lone working operated there is a requirement the operator on duty does not leave the Switchboard area unattended for any reason. Any illness occurring during lone working should be notified to the Switchboard Services Manager immediately so a substitute telephonist can be arranged.

OTHER RELEVANT POINTS

The importance and value of the service to the Hospital Trust by Atos cannot be underestimated. Close contact and liaison with all relevant departments within the hospital is essential together with customer facing attitude to ensure the best possible professional and efficient processing of calls.
