Application Support Analyst

The opportunity

Are you passionate about Application Support?

An opportunity has arisen that will put you at the forefront of the fast-moving UK Rail Industry. You’ll be an integral part of our RMF and Retail Mainframe Systems team and, as you’ll predominantly be supporting ageing IT systems, your technical know-how and well-honed problem-solving skills will be important in ensuring the smooth running of a range of ‘live’ applications. Working closely with the managed services teams who run the customer-facing services, you’ll be their go-to person to iron out any technical glitches that appear in the system.

Your role will primarily focus on second and third line support of Retail Mainframe Systems but will also involve second line support of Atrium (an asset management system).

The role is office based either in Beeston (preferred) or possibly Reading.

Your day-to-day responsibilities include:

· Ensuring all incidents, problems and changes are progressed efficiently and effectively to meet applicable service levels
· Performing analysis, designing, building and/or testing for development changes
· Keeping management and support teams up-to-date with regular progress reports
· Monitoring daily reports and processes to ensure there are no system failures
· Building relationships with customers, other support teams and suppliers, and producing outline solutions and estimates for software changes as part of any bids for new work

Signs of success

To be successful in this role, you’ll need a rich combination of experience, proven skills and personal attributes.

Additionally, although you’ll rarely get called out, a willingness to part of an on-call rota, will help you succeed in this role. See below to find out if you’re the person we’re looking for.

Skills we can’t do without:

· Ability to develop subject matter expertise across all the systems you support, including technical details and operational processes
· Experienced working in a ‘support’ environment, including liaising with end-users
· Recent working experience of both COBOL and JCL, plus ITIL compliance
· Strong team player with good written and oral communication skills
· Confident analytical and problem-solving skills
· Keen interest in learning many different systems

Skills we’d like:

· Working knowledge of one or more of the following: Natural; Adabas; PL/1; Assembler; SQL; PL/SQL; HTML; Unix; ORACLE; Delphi
