Job description
Worldline, an Atos Company, has a long established Rail Operations Delivery Centre in Darlington, County Durham.
The team develop and manage products which are used throughout the UK Rail Industry in the planning of trains, rail vehicles and operational rail crew.
This role forms part of the product development team, based in Darlington and in our offshore centre in Pune, India, and is required to replace an existing member of the team who has accepted a role with another Atos company.
The remit for this team is to build and enhance innovative Rail Ops products, carrying out all aspects of software development including detailed design, build, unit and link testing and supporting subsequent systems test and UAT phases. The team use the Atos global delivery model, which makes use of world standard tooling and industry-leading best practice.
This is a challenging role, to work as part of the delivery team designing solutions, and then working with colleagues in India to deliver the solutions to our Rail customers.
Duties include:
Developing existing applications as per the Rail Operations Release Management process with a minimum of 2 releases per year for the products, delivering new and enhanced functionality to UK Rail Industry customers.
Work with analysts and customers to define customer requirements, designing new solutions which fit with the product strategy
Working as part of a team of software developers, delivering the software enhancements and new products to Rail Operations customers
Working on technical design, coding and testing as appropriate under the management of a team leader, liaising with staff in the UK and India and with customers as appropriate to deliver quality products
Work with the test team to ensure that all work is successfully tested to ensure quality before release
Ensure all work is carried out and documented in accordance with required standards, methods and procedures.
Desired profile
Essential
In depth experience in designing / code java applications
Some experience of working with Oracle or SQL Server
Experience of working in a disciplined development and/or support environment
Able to establish a good rapport with a range of business and technical colleagues.
Able to work independently or as part of a team, depending on the nature of the task in hand

Desirable
Some or all of the following: Application Server technology (IBM Websphere app server, Apache Tomcat, or similar), Experience of Oracle and/or SQL Server databases or similar, experience of enterprise middleware technologies (Websphere MQ, Intel, or similar), experience of different user interface technologies (HTML5, CSS, mobile delivery, Microsoft WPF, WCMS/CMS, or similar)
Experience of working in a distributed delivery environment
Knowledge of the UK Rail Industry would be an advantage but training and support can be provided
