Teaching Summer Internship / School-Based Experience

Currently studying at university? Thinking about a career in teaching? Our Summer Internship will give you a unique insight into working in one of Ark’s schools.

Ark is an international charity, transforming lives through education in the UK, Africa and India. We are tackling educational inequality through running great schools, launching innovative ventures and training great teachers (www.arkonline.org). Ark Teacher Training is an outstanding 2 year school-based training programme which gives you the experience, support and qualifications you need to become a great teacher.

During the week you will be fully immersed in school life, undertaking a mixture of class observation and team teaching. Throughout the internship you will be working with current and former participants of Ark Teacher Training, enabling you to see first-hand how our programme gives you the best start to a career in teaching.

The internship will be based at Globe Academy in Elephant & Castle, London and will run from Monday 10th - Friday 14th July 2017. You must be available for the duration of this time.

Your activities during the week will fall in the following categories:

Observations

Observe a variety of classes in the school, including lessons delivered by current Ark Teacher Trainees
Shadow an individual student for a day
Teaching

Take part in our team-teaching model, working with an experienced teacher to deliver lessons or parts of lessons to students
Support individual students with their work during lessons
Enrichment

Take part in the school’s enrichment day on the 14th July, leading activities in your chosen enrichment topic
Work with sixth-form pupils to discuss higher education opportunities, sharing your experience of university to raise their aspirations
Other

Support the delivery of the pastoral programme during tutor time
Meet with current participants of the programme to gain first-hand insight into Ark Teacher Training
