In a nutshell
As a Food Proposition Planning manager your role will cover:
- The design and development of value strategies and frameworks to enable Sainsbury’s to be customers’ First Choice for Food through a winning value proposition for our customers
- Lead on business-wide integration of our strategies and frameworks through compelling story telling and brilliant stakeholder engagement
- Being an expert in value performance and market insight, through regular reporting and responsive investigations
What you need to do
Design and development of value strategies and frameworks
- Frame the right commercial and customer questions, often from a position of ambiguity
- Analyse pricing and promotions data from a range of sources and determine key insights
- Be creative in bringing the right insights and people together to help solve the questions and make tangible recommendations to the business
- Develop food commercial prioritisation frameworks to implement strategic change across value propositions and channels
Lead on business-wide integration of our strategies and frameworks:
- Craft simple, compelling and balanced rationale for change
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to strengthen our proposition and ensure that we land the right proposition, with impact
- Present proposed strategies and frameworks in a compelling way which generates change
- Review our propositions post-launch to ensure that they are delivering commercial and customer objectives
Be an expert in value performance and market insight
- Closely follow and investigate market movements, share findings and response recommendations with the right teams to ensure effective decision-making
- Adapt and develop regular reporting for the business on all things value
- Work closely with Finance, Marketing, Insight and Trading to connect the dots
- Provide the business Commercial Leadership Team with market trends and competitor insight updates
- Liaise regularly with subject matter experts to maximise knowledge and capability
Communication of the Sainsbury’s Commercial Strategy
- Create engaging content for Food Commercial Leadership team to galvanise stakeholders behind the Sainsbury’s Commercial Strategy and vision
What you need to know and show
- Obsessed with customers
- Understanding of commercial levers and complexity
- Able to analyse data and generate clear and structure insight
- Comfortable using Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint
- Ability to lead and inspire others, at all levels
- Passion for retail markets, familiar with customer, market, competition and financial insights
- Highly numerate, hypothesis-led thinking
- Curiosity and drive
- Ability to build strong, business-wide relationships
- Simple, compelling storytelling ability with an engaging presentation style
- Balanced approach to decision making
Skills and experience
- Experience within the customer and commercial space, FMCG beneficial
- Experience analysing large and varied data sources and consolidating into meaningful insight. Team management in this space is beneficial.
- Track record of designing and delivering strategic change
- History of partnering and collaboration with range of cross-functional stakeholders, across a range of seniorities
