Job description

The Trading Operations team, sits at the heart of Sainsbury’s trading activity. The team plays a key role in ensuring the seamless delivery of the commercial proposition across Food, Sainsbury’s General Merchandise and Clothing, supporting all brands, channels and stores. Working closely with a variety of stakeholders, the Trading Operations Administrator will ensure that products, pricing and promotional activity is executed accurately and compliantly, enabling stores to trade effectively every day. This is a fast-paced and highly collaborative environment, with a direct impact on customer experience and commercial performance.

 

More about the role

As a Trading Operations Administrator, you will provide second-line support for commercial systems and data-related queries, helping to resolve issues that impact store trading. You will investigate and troubleshoot problems relating to pricing, promotions, data accuracy and system functionality, ensuring they are resolved quickly or escalated appropriately. Your role will be critical in maintaining legal compliance and minimising disruption to stores, particularly during peak trading periods, launches and key events.

 

Day to day, you will work with Commercial Support Analysts, Commercial teams, Technology partners and Stores to diagnose issues, manage data accuracy and ensure correct execution in systems such as ECS. You will run and interpret reports to proactively identify risks, support urgent legal pricing interventions where required, and contribute to continuous improvement by identifying recurring issues and recommending solutions. You will also collaborate with offshore support teams and ensure clear communication to stakeholders on progress and resolutions.

 

More about you

You will be someone who can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced trading environment, balancing urgency, risk and commercial impact. You are comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and can build effective working relationships across Commercial, Technology and Store teams. You communicate clearly and confidently, particularly when explaining issues, impacts and solutions to others.

 

You take a proactive approach to problem solving, with a focus on continuous learning and improvement. You are resilient under pressure, particularly during live trading or incident scenarios, and maintain a high level of attention to detail when working with pricing and product data. You are confident using Excel to review and manipulate data, and have some understanding of retail or commercial trading processes.

 

Essential criteria

  • Proven experience of investigating and resolving system or data-related issues in a commercial, operational or retail environment
  • Demonstrable experience of working with large datasets in Excel, including data validation, analysis and manipulation
  • Experience of prioritising and managing multiple workload demands, balancing urgency and risk
  • Evidence of communicating clearly with stakeholders, including explaining issues, impacts and resolutions
  • Experience of identifying data discrepancies or risks and taking appropriate action to resolve or escalate
  • Experience working within a commercial environment, with buying or merchandising experience
