We are looking for a Senior Azure Cloud Engineer to join and represent a team dedicated to delivering and managing the Azure Cloud Platform. Your work will ensure the scalability, reliability, security, and efficiency of the environments hosting Sainsbury’s applications.
Role Summary:
We are seeking a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer with a passion for Azure, Infrastructure as Code and automation to join our team. This role focuses on designing, delivering, and operating our Azure Cloud Platform that powers Sainsbury’s Services and Applications. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring our environments are scalable, reliable, secure, and cost-efficient, while driving continuous improvement across our cloud capabilities and help lead on the delivery of best in breed cloud services to Sainsbury’s
What You’ll Do:
Build and Run Scalable Infrastructure: Use cutting-edge tools and technologies to continuously deliver robust Cloud Infrastructure through Infrastructure as Code practices. Engage in the design, collaborating with Product Owners, our Engineering Community and Architects to ensure that solutions help customers and achieve our business goals and objectives. Discover and recommend ways to improve reliability and efficiency, with a keen eye on Governance and Security.
Azure Expertise: Strong experience with Azure services and tools to design, deploy, and manage scalable infrastructure, including the building and management of Containers.
Passion for Automation: A deep commitment to automation and modern DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines.
Infrastructure as Code: Hands-on experience with Terraform, Bicep, or similar tools for IaaC.
Tooling and Innovation: Ability to develop custom tools or leverage open-source solutions to enhance platform efficiency and usability.
Enhance Cloud Platform Capabilities: Develop internal tools to improve platform speed, security, and cost-efficiency, enabling teams to work smarter. Deploy and configure production systems, with a particular focus on automation, ease of configuration, reduction of human error, repeatability, and security.
Monitor new features/functionality and assess their Ops implications to continuously improve services.
Ensure Identity and Access Management controls are in place and strictly adhered to
Monitor infrastructure by setting appropriate thresholds and react to event driven alerts appropriately.
Produce and maintain documentation of support processes & resolutions to known operational issues
Collaborate Across Teams: Work with engineers across diverse platforms and technologies to create consistent, reliable, and reusable cloud solutions. Collaborate with other DevOps Engineers to design, implement and evolve automated pipelines in the cloud. A proactive and collaborative mindset to work closely with stakeholders, engineers, and cross-functional teams.
Ensure Operational Excellence: Focus on delivering a platform that meets stringent security, availability, and performance requirements for critical applications. Participate in a 24/7 on call rota as required to support our Platform and the services that it offers.
What You Need to Know & Show
Have a strong demonstratable understanding of, as well as commercial, hands-on experience of working in Microsoft Azure.
Substantial experience in Terraform and one or more programming languages, preferably NodeJS and Typescript (please add anything else)
Have experience with containerisation tools and orchestration platforms, such as Kubernetes and Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), with a solid understanding of deployment practices, ideally using GitOps methodologies with ArgoCD and GitActions.
Knowledge of Azure Cloud PaaS platforms providing key capabilities and services to support efficient application development, deployment, and management
Be experienced working with delivery teams in a fast paced, DevOps environment
Experienced in writing automated tests and maintaining pipelines
Be diligent and positive about tracking (JIRA), system monitoring, security & auditing
You will have experience of source and version control tools such as GitHub and preferably experience in GitHub Actions
Good understanding of Service Operations, SRE & ITIL responsibilities
Experience of Agile Methodologies and Frameworks.
An up-to-date understanding of Cloud technology base and a general understanding of other technology bases
Experience and proven track record as a member of a Cloud team within an Operations function
Proven Cloud Operations experience with strong best practice knowledge and mentoring skills, with effective workload management and stakeholder engagement and actively contribute to Platform development and drive platform improvements.
