FM Logistics Automation Specialist
Coventry (Coventry)
Job description
Why join us
Joining Sainsbury's as an FM Logistics Automation Specialist means becoming part of a forward-thinking and collaborative team dedicated to driving enhanced performance in our logistics automation estate. With a focus on innovation and operational excellence, you will play a key role in shaping the future of our automation national supply chain, making a real impact and contributing to the success of Sainsbury’s.
What you'll do
You’ll analyse automation performance, manage supplier delivery and drive continuous improvement initiatives in automation maintenance services, collaborating with external partners and internal stakeholders. You will focus on ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of assets by employing your expertise in automation, engineering, or mechatronics.
You’ll support the delivery of FM automation operations through effective project management and insight reporting, working closely with our external supply chain. You’ll define and deliver strategic improvement projects that strengthen our automation maintenance service, while creating and maintaining a range of automation insights covering performance, service, design and commercial activity. You will manage budgets and approvals for both reactive and planned spend, analyse supply chain performance, and ensure the availability of critical parts and tools.
You’ll maintain the automation asset register and capital plan, proactively identifying and prioritising investment needs with the FM Logistics Automation Manager, and you’ll progress capital investment projects from scope through to delivery, working cross‑functionally across Property, Logistics and external partners. You’ll provide subject‑matter expertise across engineering, compliance, safety and legislative requirements, and manage contractors to ensure services are delivered in line with contractual expectations and KPIs.
As part of the on‑call rota, you’ll lead incident resolution and communication during high‑criticality events, ensuring operations are supported and recovery is well‑coordinated. You’ll also maintain compliance documentation and checks relating to automation asset standards and regulatory requirements, build and monitor performance and risk reports, and escalate issues where appropriate. Through data analysis, you’ll identify trends, recurring issues and improvement opportunities, supporting the preparation of business cases and driving enhancements through to completion.
Who you are
You bring a strong technical background in automation, engineering or mechatronics, combined with the ability to analyse data, manage suppliers and confidently communicate clearly with senior stakeholders, particularly during operational incidents.
Essential criteria
- Experience working with automated or engineered assets in a logistics or industrial environment
- Proven capability in analysing performance data and identifying improvement opportunities
- Experience managing external suppliers or service providers, in an operational role.
- Willingness to travel nationally in this field-based role and participate in an on-call rota
