Please note, this role is based out of our Holborn Store Support Centre & Home. Colleagues go into the office 1 day per week on average.
The Commercial Finance Team plays a crucial role in both shaping and delivering the strategy at Sainsbury’s. It’s a highly competitive industry that never stands still, and Finance has a key role to play in driving, partnering, and protecting our business. Our focus is on maximising sales, profit, return on investment and cash flow alongside our non-financial objectives.
Our ability to work with Suppliers and build partnerships that unlock shared growth through sustainable customer outcomes is key part of our strategy.
This role will be embedded in one of our Commercial Buying areas and work alongside our Commercial Finance team providing analytical and decision-making support through Commercial negotiations.
More about the role
- Support the wider Supplier Planning team as we shape and develop our approach to Branded and Own Label Supplier Planning
- Partner with Finance and Non-Finance stakeholders and provide decision-making support and constructive challenge that enable us to grow sales, improve margin, and drive cashflow
- Drive insight and analytical support on Supplier Planning activity, including scenario modelling and analysing negotiation outcomes to understand the financial impact of commercial negotiations
- Provide constructive challenge to ensure that we set appropriate targets, provide robust financial modelling to support decisions, deliver against our plans, and realise negotiated benefits
- Communicate project progress, financial benefits, or outcomes pertinent to this area.
- Ensure that we remain compliant to all relevant financial accounting standards
- Directly manage one analyst and draw on support from a pool of Analysts
More about you
- Qualified accountant - CIMA/ACCA/ACA
- Strong Commercial Finance Business Partnering experience
- Self-motivated team player, able to work autonomously, prioritise and solve problems

- Immerse yourself within the category team, build relationships and understand the respective priorities of the cross-functional teams (Buying, Supply Chain, Ranging, Category planning, Technical, Innovation, Finance, Plan for Better and Packaging teams)
- Applies experience working in large Retail business and an understanding of Commercial Margin levers and Supplier business models to create value for the business
- Ability to communicate effectively with senior stakeholders. Very good networking and partnering skills
