· This role will lead the effort to produce a set of self-service tools and reports that allow our business users from the entire Sainsburys Argos organisation to repeatedly see data and insight on our customers behaviour in a timely manner. They will be driving the effort to democratise our data, make it accessible and intuitive to the business teams and will do this by creating a suite of tools and reports, as specified by analysts, and managing these on an ongoing basis.
They will be key to selecting the right toolsets, ensuring the right access and promoting the use of automation to minimise manual effort. They will manage a small, but efficient, team to do this and will work closely with our IT colleagues to ensure the appropriate support mechanisms are in place.
What I need to do
This role will reside within the Customer and Digital Data Management team and be accountable for the creation and operation of reporting and self-service tools that allow the business to access data and insight from our Single Customer View and digital analytics platforms in a timely, robust and visual way.
Specifically, the Tools and Reporting Manager role will focus on:
Mange a reporting developer, setting their priorities appropriately and ensuring the quality of their output.
Ensuring reporting and self-service tools are accessible to the business users, managing an effective process to democratise and, with assistance from the analyst community where required train people on these reports
Respond quickly to key business questions ensuring they have access to information and insight to make commercial decisions
Create engaging, easily interpretable and memorable ways of visualising data as well as being able to provide a capability to answer simple insight & data questions in a timely fashion.
Determining the appropriate solution for an automated report, avoiding over-engineering but promoting the benefits of operationalising them.
Gather reporting requirements from stakeholders within the CMI function, seeking to find automated solutions where possible
Ensure timely delivery of reports, to specification and to high quality
How I will succeed
You will be work effectively with your analyst stakeholders, anticipating their needs and designing and building reporting and self-serve tools that allow them and the wider business users to easily use. The reports will be intuitive and be robust – they can be relied upon for both their timeliness and accuracy. You will bring innovation around visualisation techniques to bring the data alive for the users.
What I need to know
Significant experience of creating compelling, highly valued dashboards and reports that bring immediate business value.
An understanding of the ‘art of the possible’ for reporting and visualisation
A strong understanding of the tools and technologies that can support great reporting, including Microstrategy, PowerBI, Tableau, SAS and Excel.
An understanding of data and data structures that support great reporting, BI and dashboards. Including a working knowledge of database, data warehouse and Big data technologies
A good understanding of the retail world, ideally specifically customer and digitally based.
Familiar with Customer and Digital Datasets. Experience of using Digital analytical platforms such as Google Analytics or Adobe Analytics.
