In a nutshell:

This role is within the Analytics and Reporting team where we are focussed on using customer data, turning it into insight, to drive action. You'll help us understand customer behaviour to support the business in making informed decisions. The problems you will work on will be large and varied with a real business impact. With a broad set of internal stakeholders, the role will carry out ad-hoc customer analysis and help support self-service customer insight tools. This will both drive action and help build a culture where customer is central to decision making.

What I need to do

This role will be responsible for performing customer-based analysis and supporting self-service customer insight tools for the insight team and wider business. You will understand the context and background to a business question, working with multiple data sources and applying analytical thinking to answer that question. You will present findings in a way that answers the question, engages stakeholders and, where possible, has clearly defined actions proposed.

Specifically, this Assistant Analyst role will:

Take detailed transactional and customers data and transform it to answer a business question with clearly communicated findings.
Analyse Customer data, primarily from our Single Customer View and self-service tools. Have a good understanding of other relevant data available including Digital data.
Support our self-service tools, which allow our wider business teams to easily and regularly access customer data and KPI's. Support stakeholders in understanding these outputs.
Be a custodian of our data, working with the Customer and Digital Data team to ensure it is coherent and reporting accurate.
Participate in Sainsburys Argos and Sainsburys Group analytical community.

How I will succeed:

You will be curious, analytical, adept at understanding the problems at the heart of a stakeholder's questions and able to determine and undertake the most appropriate analytical approach to answer it. You will communicate your findings clearly to non-technical audiences and be constantly seeking new ways of understanding the context of their questions.

What I need to know:

This role at the core of our analytical teams and therefore you will be:

A strong analyst, with problem solving skills to take open ended business questions and produce analysis to answer the underlying issue.
Ability to work in a quick paced, dynamic environment.
Technically competent across multiple platforms including but not limited to Advanced Excel & Microsoft office skills. Use of, or aptitude and desire to learn SQL and visualisation software highly advantageous.

What I need to show:

Be an agile and innovative thinker, you should be both astute and creative with a logical and methodical approach to problem solving, you'll be passionate about not just data but finding the what, why and how.
Be an excellent communicator, credible and articulate, with excellent presentation and interpersonal skills. You will be comfortable pulling the interesting story from complex datasets and presenting your findings in an engaging manner.
Be able to demonstrate the ability to explain your findings to your team and peers, taking challenge and using that to improve your analysis.
