Exciting opportunity has become available for an Assistant Accountant to join our Finance FP&A Team within Sainsbury’s Argos.

The Role:

The Assistant Accountant owns key Argos for Business (AFB) balance sheets c£11m a period, which are monitored and any risks and opportunities identified to the AfB Accountant. You will provide up to date, accurate and complete overhead reporting within agreed timelines which allow costs to be monitored and key decisions to be made by stakeholders in the AfB Leadership team.

The role also monitors/calculates/approves the pre-paid card commission charges from clients c£100k a period, verifying client card BIN ranges with AfB data to ensure commission is paid on agreed BINs only. The AfB Assistant Accountant also manages and facilitates the monthly 3rd party stock which can have a value of c£500k.

As Assistant Accountant, your main responsibilities will include:

Preparation of complex balance sheet reconciliations to audit standard c£11m a period, identifying risks and opportunities dealing with high volumes of data.
Conduct the month end process ensuring all journal postings are completed.
Calculation of pre-paid card commissions and cross checking with data received from client to ensure correct payment of charge c£100k a period.
Manage and facilitate the month 3rd party stock count which can have a value of c£500k.
Promote best practise within the team and continually look to improve processes including involvement in projects that are in the pipeline.
Actively contribute in meetings and be able to influence colleagues in making the best decisions for the business.

Your skills & experience will include:

Educated to degree level or equivalent.
Part qualified accountant – ACCA / CIMA or studying towards.
Experience gained working in a Finance function within a large company, preferably Retail.
Experience of reconciling balance sheets up to audit standard.
Strong IT skills to include MS Excel / Access / Word.
Be enthusiastic, positive and have ability to proactively engage with key Finance and non-Finance stakeholders.
Be a team player with good presentation and communication skills (both verbal & written)
Possess can do attitude with an adaptable approach suitable to operating at pace and switching between priorities.
