The Role

Exciting opportunity to support the Argos Distribution business as a Transport Finance Manager. You will provide analytical support to the Transport and Primary Solutions management team, including robust financial control, information and analysis, to help them make sound commercial business decisions. You will also support the Operations Finance Manager with both a short and long-term view of pertinent issues concerning the Distribution operation and identify any material risks to, and opportunities for, the main business.

This role will require someone who enjoys business partnering and getting involved in making commercial decisions. You will be required to travel to Distribution Centres and build key relationships with third party finance analysts.

As a Transport Finance Manager your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Support and challenge the Transport and Primary Solutions management team by providing information, professional advice and interpretation of data thereby actively participating in the decision making process and offering solutions where possible.
  • Provide one-to-one financial support and strategic thinking to the General Manager Transport and Primary Solutions team.
  • Provide challenge and insight to financial results and commentaries provided by the 3PL’s to ensure transparency and focus. Actively provide governance of the 3PL finance relationships, ensuring that processes and procedures are being followed correctly and KPIs are accurately measured.
  • Evaluate tactical projects, understanding how each will impact on the growth of Argos and retrospectively ensure that the stated benefits of each project are delivered to the business.
  • Ensure that the Transport and Primary Solutions activity forecasts are consistent with the company’s plans and are prepared in line with Argos assumptions and timetables. Obtain mutual commitment and agreement and subsequently review performance deviations and advise of required corrective actions in regular reviews and ad-hoc team meetings. 
  • Prepare, consolidate and forecast weekly and periodic Profit & Loss, Balance sheet, and Cashflow. Identify and communicate risks and opportunities as soon as they are discovered.
  • Understand the environment in which Distribution is based and ensure that any decisions taken within Distribution are carried out with full consideration of the financial impact upon Argos.

Your skills & experience will ideally include:

  • Graduate calibre professional with analytical and commercial experience preferably in a large company environment.
  • Ideally 3-5 years post qualification experience. 
  • Proven ability to operate and influence effectively with Senior Managers and at Director level.
  • Well-developed management and interpersonal skills with ability to influence effectively at all levels.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to exercise diplomacy in terms of potential areas of conflict and adapt their approach according to organisational requirements.
