What is the purpose of this role?

Perform all work within the CEFA contract, to ensure compliance with all relevant standards, maximising efficiency and effectiveness. All duties must be delivered safely and in accordance with the requirements of the client.

What will this role involve?

Responsible for assisting the Route Examining Engineer to discharge his/her responsibilities for standards of technical delivery and compliance with the technical specification. Examining Engineers undertake similar core duties but will be assigned specific additional responsibilities based on individual experience and capability. Key accountabilities include:
•Undertake the review of examination reports, risk score and make recommendations, in accordance with the specification and contractual timescales.
•Work as a member of a central CEFA Reviewing Engineer pool to maximise resource utilisation and alleviate peak and backlog issues nationally, as instructed by the Route Examining Engineer.
•Support the CEFA Technical Director and Route Examining Engineers by striving to apply a consistent and unified approach to reviewing in line with the technical specification and in the application of risk scoring.
•Liaise with, support and advise the client.
•Liaise with, support and advise all examination staff
•Undertake site checks/audits for both examination report quality and CMI compliance and provide data to the Route Examining Engineer for KPI monitoring
•Undertake site examinations, within own sphere of competence, for non-routine examinations and tunnels.
•Undertake technical briefings on behalf of, and as allocated by the Route Examining Engineer.
•Act as Supervising Engineer for trainees and mentor new engineers as directed by the Route Examining Engineer
•Undertake on-call responsibilities as Duty Manager on a periodic basis as agreed with the Route Examining Engineer.
•Provide support for specialist examinations, for example Large and Unique and Additional Examination Management.

What are we looking for?

Essential

  • Degree or HNC/HND in civil or structural engineering (extensive direct experience may be considered in lieu on an individual basis).
  • Demonstrable industry experience in structures examination and maintenance.
  • STE2 experienced reviewer, including Condition Marking.
  • STE6 Tunnel Engineer/Lead Examiner
  • Knowledge and understanding of the technical specification/standards for the CEFA requirement
  • Awareness of Network Rail competence documentation.
  • PTS holder
  • Computer literate.
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Demonstrable interpersonal skills
