The Global Merchant Services (GMS) Pricing team is responsible for the single largest source of American Express' revenue: Merchant Discount Revenue. The team works closely with multiple business partners to determine the optimal pricing to encourage merchant acceptance of American Express, while striving to improve coverage and merchant satisfaction. Ultimately, we drive GMS revenue and profit growth through customer-centric pricing principles, more flexible pricing architecture and innovative pricing solutions.

The Analyst of Merchant Pricing - Small Merchants team is responsible for driving the strategy and analysis of Small Merchants, as well as broad-scale pricing initiatives aimed at preserving our merchant discount rate while balancing the organizations goal for profitable charge volume and merchant expansion.

Job Responsibilities
· Driving the performance analysis and post implementation reporting of critical Small Merchants pricing strategies and programs
· Providing consultative and analytical support to Client Management teams for account negotiations and various pricing initiatives
· Partnering with Senior Managers to develop and manage training materials and scope lists for pricing initiatives
· Evaluating and developing business cases of various pricing scenarios and ramifications of specific business decisions
· Liaising with Finance, Client Management, Systems and Payments teams to calculate U.S. contractual payments for Small Merchants as well as payments for specific market programs
· Managing scope lists used for Annual Pricing Review and evaluating the impacts on a merchant and industry level for Small Merchants
· Supporting Pricing requests for Multicurrency platform and Exception process and other ad-hoc requests

Desired profile

· Minimum 1-3 years experience in financial services or payments industry, and/or other finance related roles
· Demonstrated strategic thought leadership and comfort working with unstructured problems
· Close attention to detail and strong project management skills with full ownership from analysis to implementation
· Solid communication skills – both written and oral -- with experience leading discussions where decisions need to be made based on the facts presented
· Strong aptitude for analytics; demonstrated ability to develop sophisticated financial models and draw value-added insights from large data sets
· Proactively anticipates customer needs and responds quickly to customer requests as a priority
· Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment, which places a premium on driving results
· Creative thinker who will challenge the status quo and embrace thinking in new directions
· Technical skills – Advanced MS Excel (including pivot tables) required, SAS/SQL programming & Tableau a plus
