The AWS Research team is looking for motivated and customer-focused research interns to join our UX research teams in summer 2021. Successful candidates will learn a great deal at Amazon/AWS and will gain hands-on experience in UX Research. As a research intern, you will work with senior researchers to uncover insights, inform design decisions, and forge new opportunities to improve customer experience and business outcomes through the rigorous study of people and the ecosystems in which they exist. You will continuously build team understanding and empathy through empirical observation, experience, and collaboration. In this role you will own a research project from start to finish. You will help build an understanding of needs and pain-points and will conduct a variety of qualitative and/or quantitative analyses in different situations. You’ll inspire change by delivering insightful, actionable and exciting share outs about your findings. You will gain experience with a variety of research methods such as usability studies (comparative, iterative, prototype, remote), card sorting, concept testing, cognitive walkthroughs, diary studies, field research and surveys. You will also gain real-world experience, build contacts, and learn from some of the best researchers and designers in the industry.
The ideal candidate will have a strong grasp of user research principles, with a passion for collecting customer feedback that informs design and business decisions. This position requires a high degree of self-motivation, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Responsibilities will include:
· Owning a UX research project and working with researchers to deliver on it.
· Assisting UX researchers in designing, conducting and analyzing results from a variety of research studies including usability lab studies, remote research, field studies and survey design.
· Thinking strategically, be creative, and negotiate research and design solutions in relation to business goals.
· Helping collect and analyze user behavior through lab studies, field visits, ethnography, surveys, benchmark studies, server logs and online experiments.
· Identifying and incorporate complex technical and business requirements into research and help advocate research findings to diverse audiences through written reports and in-person presentations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· A portfolio demonstrating past work experience and deliverables (e.g., study plans, reports, personas)
· Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and analytical skills; the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and persuasively across different audiences and varying levels of the organization
· A passion and capacity to advocate on behalf of our users

Desired profile
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· Currently enrolled in a Masters/PhD program focused on Human-Centered Computing/Design, Human Factors Engineering, Statistics, Psychology, Anthropology or a related field from an accredited college or university with a minimum of one semester of school to complete after your internship
· Experience with user research methods quantitative and/or qualitative methods
· Experience with remote user research software + data collection tools.
· Smart, creative, results-oriented, and customer obsessed researcher who can effectively communicate and collaborate with others.
· Self-motivated individual who takes ownership and confident in sharing thoughts and ideas with the team.
