Job description

DESCRIPTION

Our mission at Goodreads is to help people find and share books they love. We are the world's largest site for readers and book recommendations with 55 million members who have added over 1.5 billion books to their shelves.

We are looking for a talented, innovative user experience designer with a deep understanding of the web. An important area of focus for this role will be to design advertising products that elevate the customer experience and serve the needs of our sponsors. There will also be opportunities to work on our core products and develop new and impactful experiences outside of ad products.

You should be a highly motivated, self-directed, enthusiastic person with a sharp mind who works well under pressure and can thrive in an atmosphere of rapid development. You must be willing to work collaboratively with other UX/Designers, Product Manager, Developer and Advertising teams to develop exceptional customer experiences that communicate visual excellence. You must have a strong individual sense of aesthetics and visual design. This is primarily a hands-on UX/Design role, which will include production work.

Coding skills are not a requirement, but for the purposes of evaluating the cost of your proposals and communicating with engineers, it will help to have a basic understanding of the practice of front-end development. Creativity and strong communication and collaboration skills are obviously a requirement. A passion for reading and an entrepreneurial spirit are a big plus. This is an on-site position.

Responsibilities:
· Work closely with cross-functional teams to help define business and feature requirements, user scenarios and use cases, continuously incorporating feedback to improve your designs.
· Create process flows, conceptual diagrams, wireframes, and mockups to effectively communicate high-level design strategies and detailed interaction behaviors.
· Provide design leadership to non-design teams by fostering a shared understanding of the customer-centric intersection between design, business and technology through ongoing design reviews.
· Stay current on emerging technologies and identify opportunities to incorporate best current thinking into product designs
· Evangelize for usability, design and innovation within the organization, and advocate for the quality and consistency of design across our product.
· Be resourceful and creative to overcome obstacles and turn challenges into opportunities.
Working for Goodreads:
We are located in downtown San Francisco near Market and 1st Streets, and near BART. We are proud of our supportive and collaborative work culture, and we strongly encourage continual learning and professional development.
