Job description

DESCRIPTION

Amazon is focused on protecting the health and safety of our employees while continuing to serve people who need our services more than ever. Regular testing on a global scale across all industries would both help keep people safe and help get the economy back up and running. But, for this to work, we as a society would need vastly more testing capacity than is currently available. Unfortunately, today we live in a world of scarcity where COVID-19 testing is heavily rationed. Until we have an effective vaccine available in billions of doses, high-volume testing capacity would be of great help, but getting that done will take collective action by NGOs, companies, and governments. For our part, Amazon has begun the work of building incremental testing capacity.

The Role

As a Support Engineer, you will engage with experienced cross-disciplinary staff to test, develop and support key analytical and automated material preparation equipment in our diagnostics lab. You will own the performance and reliability of agreed machines/areas of our diagnostics lab, and you will work closely with the lab team and outside partners to drive key aspects of product refinement, execution, and test. You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative peer environment. You will work closely with an inter-disciplinary lab team and outside partners to help maintain equipment, improve performance (speed, accuracy), and help define maintenance actions and key processing parameters.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· A keen, flexible and proactive mind, with strong conceptual thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
· Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects successfully
· Background in hardware support for reliability teams
· Ability to work in a cross-functional team and accommodate flexible loading.
· Good verbal and written communication, with a tendency to over-communicate and over-document.
· Strong hands-on ownership and drive for executing reliability testing

Desired profile

· Bachelor's degree in mechanical / electrical engineering or science (material science, physics, chemistry)
· Experience in reliability, customer service engineering, and/or automation maintenance, including monitoring and configuration management
· Experience running change management using existing documentation.

· A solid understanding of server-based operating systems and basic scripting skills in Python and/or Labview
· Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with peers and stakeholders.
