RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a Senior Quantitative Researcher, you will partner with Design, Product Management and Engineering to discover and solve real world customer problems and opportunities. You will do this by analyzing large data sets, defining new metrics and business cases, designing simulations and experiments, and leveraging other research methods to understand user behavior and what drives those behaviors. Your job will straddle day-to-day decisions and strategic vision. You will get the exciting opportunity to work on some of the world’s largest and diverse datasets. The successful candidate will have a strong quantitative and qualitative research background, good communication skills, and can thrive in an environment that leverages statistics, machine learning, business analysis, and mixed methods user research data. You job responsibilities will include:
· Define and execute a comprehensive research plan, using the best method or mix of quantitative and qualitative methods based on research questions, timeline, and resourcing.
· Perform hands-on data analysis and modeling with very large data sets to develop insights into different aspects of our business and user experience.
· Follow best practices to gather and use large datasets from multiple sources, adapt existing knowledge to build models, and design workable solutions to meet customer needs.
· Drive research initiatives that range from qualitative and forward-looking to quantitative evaluation of current products.
· Effectively translate data and insights into strategy and design direction in clear, concise, and compelling ways to all levels of management.
· Create a deep understanding and empathy for our customers across diverse audiences, including designers, PMs, engineers, and business leaders.
· Build and improve a robust and thoughtful approach to gathering customer insights and collaborating with other research teams in Amazon to align on best practices.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
· MS in Statistics, HCI, Social Sciences, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Operational Research, or a related quantitative field.
· Understanding of relevant statistical measures such as confidence intervals, significance of error measurements, development and evaluation data sets, etc.
· Have a history of building systems that capture and utilize large data sets in order to quantify performance via metrics or KPIs.
· Experience in standard machine-learning and statistical modeling tools and techniques (e.g. random forests, gradient-boosted regression, LASSO, logistic regression).
· Experience in using dimensionality reduction techniques on large datasets.
· Experience applying various machine learning techniques, and understanding the key parameters that affect their performance.
· Strong algorithm development experience.
· Experienced in using multiple data science methodologies to solve complex business problems.
· Proven track record of innovation in creating novel algorithms and advancing the state of the art.
· Experience processing, filtering, and presenting large quantities (Millions to Billions of rows) of data.
· Experience building complex data visualization.
· Sound business judgment with demonstrated ability to balance technical and business needs to make the right decisions about technology, models and methodologies.
· Demonstrated ability to independently drive issues to resolution while communicating insights to non-technical audiences.

Desired profile
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· BS in Statistics, HCI, Social Sciences or equivalent.
· 5+ years leading strategic quantitative user research projects.
· 5+ years of hands-on experience in predictive modeling and analysis.
· 4+ years of experience with data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. C++, Java, Python etc.), and statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.).
