DESCRIPTION
Amazon's Global Risk Management and Claims team is seeking a Risk Analyst that will coordinate and manage property and business interruption claims globally. This role will coordinate and leverage a global network of internal and external partners to scale department support globally, maximizing financial recovery through insurance, subrogation, and salvage where applicable. This role will also support vendor assignment, budget development and payment processes, review contracts where needed, and support implementation and execution of scalable claims and crisis management processes.
Reporting to the Asset Risk Manager within Treasury, this position will join a technical risk team that is responsible for assessing, mitigating, and managing fire and natural hazard risks for Amazon locations globally. Successful candidate will a strong team player with willingness to “roll up their sleeves,” an ability to earn trust quickly while leveraging vendors to provide strong advice, and successfully navigate the commercial insurance claims process to quickly maximize financial recoveries.
Claims Management, Loss Mitigation & Support
· Play the lead role in identifying, managing, tracking, and reporting global property insurance losses and claims.
· Monitor and participate as Risk Management lead for global crisis management calls.
· Provide crisis management support and guidance to site leadership to minimize downtime and maximize financial recoveries through insurance, subrogation, and/or liquidation following events of damage.
· Provide support and guidance in damage assessment, vendor assignment, and financial tracking to site leadership.
· Coordinate and dispatch independent adjusters and other vendors as needed to facilitate damage assessments, investigations, and financial tracking.
· Develop estimates of financial loss, and present reserve recommendations for smaller losses based on feedback from field-based independent adjusters. Support the Asset Risk Manager in documenting claim details for large losses.
· Partner with Legal and Loss Prevention as needed with investigations into cause and origin of losses as applicable.
· Manage documentation requests and communications for subrogation efforts, whether direct or via insurance partners.
· Provide regular written updates for stakeholder groups on overall claim status, open concerns, and final resolution.
· Partner with Accounts Receivable and Accounting for posting/adjusting reserves and managing receipt of settlements.
Vendor Management
· Maintain and develop relationships with global vendors, including adjusters, broker claim advocates, remediation firms, salvage consultants, and accountants; including negotiation of contracts, terms, and rates.
· Advise internal teams on vendor response options and resources during emergency events.
· Solicit and manage vendor budgets associated with a loss, including payment processing.
· Support the Asset Risk Management team in overall vendor management and payments for claims, risk assessments, and other services procured externally by the team.
Process Improvements & Contract Support
· Develop and implement loss tracking tools for management of open claims and tracking loss history metrics.
· Provide regular metrics reports to the Risk Management team, capture key learnings and any opportunities for improvement to the response process, facility designs, or operational practices.
· Participate in process improvement projects related to crisis management, business continuity, and emergency response plans for large events of damage or operational impact.
· Review construction contracts, leases, and other documents to advise legal on language that aligns with our insurance programs and recovery strategies.
Desired profile
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· BA/BS degree, preferably in Risk Management, Finance, Accounting, or other quantitative field.
· 3 to 5 years of experience investigating and managing commercial property claims.
