DESCRIPTION
This is a six months internship.
Would you like to be part of a public policy team that is driving the adoption of cloud computing in South East Asia? Do you want to play a role in shaping our communications to government and other key internal and external stakeholders? Are you able to help support the administrative needs of the team?
AWS is looking for an enthusiastic, creative and detail-oriented public policy intern to join our fast-growing ASEAN public policy team. This role will have four major functions:
· Support Public Policy Initiatives (20% of time). Support the development of position papers and advocacy documents for ASEAN advocacy goals; help align policy positions across key functions (business, security legal, PR); and ensure consistency in positions across the AWS business on core policy issues.
· Help Create the Policy Function (20% of your time). Create systems and processes to support the ASEAN public policy function, and foster and develop existing mechanisms. These mechanisms include tools for information-sharing and internal reporting, among others.
· Provide Administrative Support (50% of time). Provide administrative support for the ASEAN team, including managing database of government contacts, managing all contracts and billing for the ASEAN team, and supporting travel and booking arrangements as required.
· Support Strategic Projects (10% of time). Support country / regional leads on key strategic long-term, high-impact strategic projects that are designed as our “big bets” to influence policy outcomes in ASEAN.
This role is based in Singapore and reports to the head of public policy for Southeast Asia.
The successful candidate must be inquisitive, enthusiastic about technology, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations.
Desired profile
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
· Exceptional writing skills, including ability to synthesize policy documents and complex issues for internal and external customers, and ability to convince through writing;
· Exceptional editing skills, including proven experience in proofreading and editing English written by non-native English speakers.
· Strong analytical skills, including ability to understand how legislative and regulatory proposals may impact the AWS business;
· Comfortable working in ambiguous environments; self-starter that can use good judgment and resourcefulness to take action in the absence of clear guidance; ability to “manage up” to ensure you get what you need to be effective;
· Exceptional research skills, including ability to find new sources of information (e.g., data points) to support policy positions (past publications are a plus);
· Exceptional attention to detail for all administrative functions;
· Strong time-management skills; including ability to prioritize and manage competing demands on your time;
· Proven ability to work in teams, especially coordinating across functions;
· Maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity;
· A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in a relevant discipline (Law, Political Science, Public Policy, etc.);
· Native English speaker required
