DESCRIPTION

The global data center commissioning team at Amazon Web Services is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer who is passionate about commissioning to be responsible for the commissioning plan and technical evaluation of our data center designs. The principal electrical engineer would contribute to the continuous innovation and evolution the commissioning plan for our rapidly expanding data center foot print. AWS Data Center Global Services is responsible for the design and operation of industry-leading, large-scale, business critical global facilities. Job Summary

We are looking for a principal electrical engineer with hands on data center design and data center commissioning field experience, both electrical and mechanical. If you can design and operate critical systems, are a subject matter expert in the commissioning of critical equipment and systems for a data center, and understand the constructability of varying designs--you may be a good fit. In this role you will work with the commissioning implementation teams and make key decisions related to the commissioning plan and approach. You will be relied on as a subject matter expert in the commissioning of data centers and will advise senior management on business-impacting trends, risks, and new opportunities. You will also work with other Principal Engineers within AWS Data Center Global Services to drive design innovation and reliability across the globe. You will participate in the research and testing of new technologies and designs applicable to our products or services. You will be also responsible for writing technical documentation for such projects. You must be capable of defining critical equipment specifications and approving equipment submittals.

As a principal engineer at Amazon you will be working with other internal groups as well as external groups including utilities, manufacturers, vendors, and contractors. Amazon has a global presence and travel will occasionally be necessary. International support will be part of the job, and some international travel will be necessary. Support could consist of working on international teams and could require reviewing the designs and commissioning plans of international locations. An understanding of international electrical design requirements is preferable.

Major Responsibilities
Under the direction of a senior global commissioning manager, the principal electrical engineer for data center commissioning will be responsible for the following:
- Work with internal teams to understand user requirements.
- Collaborate with teams or individuals from other disciplines, cultures and countries.
- Communicate clearly and effectively at the appropriate level of detail with people from a wide range of technical abilities and backgrounds.
- Produce clear and concise documentation such as detailed commissioning plan, startup test requirements, functional test scripts, reports and version release notes.
- Understand and safeguard implementation of the Global Data Center Basis of Design (BoD) with constant auditing.
- Drive standardization in the global data center designs.
- Travel to sites for site review and work with onsite commissioning engineers, as well as provide engineering evaluations and commissioning recommendations.
- Work directly with commissioning implementations teams to properly test and validate installation, operation, and performance of critical systems.
- Capture requirements and turn aspirational company or customer goals into well-defined, achievable and testable specifications and solutions.
- Define testing requirements prior to and during research and development projects.
- Work with regional vendors and manufacturers to specify the appropriate commissioning protocols.
- Review and approval of equipment submittals including vendor Witness Tests.
- Ability to work on concurrent projects in multiple geographical regions.
- Having fun and offering creative, out of the box solutions.

Desired profile



BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related scientific field.
· 5+ years of experience in the electrical engineering design of large scale power delivery systems and component selection.
· 10+ years of experience in the commissioning large scale power delivery systems and test script creation.
· Well versed in relevant national and international safety and compliance codes and standards including, UL, IEC, ISO, IBC, NEC/NFPA
· Pursuing or have passed the ‘Fundamentals of Engineering' (FE) exam, and intending or be actively pursuing Professional Engineering Licensure.
