The Architectural, Civil, and Structural (ACS) Design Team is responsible for the structure design of Amazon DCs. The ACS Team is seeking a talented Structural Engineer to become part of our team in Tokyo, Japan. As a Structural Engineer you will be part of a highly creative and efficient design team comprised of Architects, Engineers and Designers to deliver the full design of DCs. As a subject matter expert, you will have a direct impact on the design of prototypical DC facilities, provide technical guidance and support to your manager and other team members to derive the design and to solve large scale implementation issues.
Responsibilities
The Structural Engineer will be responsible for the following:
- Work closely with the design manager and other design engineering professionals on concepts, preliminary and detail design of DC projects.
- Development and maintenance of ACS Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications for structural systems.
- Serve as a technical advisor for DC design projects including; review of foundation and structural systems, evaluating superstructure design options, and assessing structural calculation assumptions.
- Create, review and release ACS designs RFPs.
- Coordinate with internal and external architectural, civil, structural, Mechanical and Electrical design consultants.
- Work on multiple data center build and capital improvement projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, maintain high quality standards
- Ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find innovative solutions prior to and during the construction process to reduce costs without negative impacts on quality or reliability.
- Motivated, dependable and capable of working with limited oversight.
- Ability to effectively communicate design standards to internal and external project partners.
- Travel for site assessments, consultant selection activities, internal design meetings, construction review, design consultants, quantity surveyors, and building owners.
- Anticipated travel not to exceed 25%.
Desired profile
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Accredited Bachelor's degree in civil or structural engineering.
- Ideally +5 years structural and civil engineering Japanese experience
- Previous large industrial, warehouse and commercial projects design experience.
- Detailed understanding of steel and concrete structures and seismic and wind design.
- Solid working proficient in design software such as ETABS, Safe, and Microstran or equivalent.
- Experience completing designs and calculations for auxiliary and secondary framing systems.
- Familar with base isolation system
- Solid working proficient with AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate the constructability of new technologies, and determine construction methods of data center equipment and facilities.
- Proficiency in building codes, regulations, and standard including Japanese standards.
