DESCRIPTION

The Amazon Sports and Outdoors team is looking for a talented, customer-obsessed Category Merchant Manager to help shape the future of our 3rd party marketplace. This role offers the unique opportunity to own a sizable portion of a category P&L while also driving large scale, high visibility programs across a variety of internal teams.

The ideal candidate will be highly organized and have a demonstrated track record of successful program management/ownership, juggling multiple projects with competing deadlines, and using data to identify and prioritize opportunities. S/he is analytical, enthusiastic, self-motivated, detail-oriented, customer-focused, and has strong writing skills with the ability to handle ambiguity and influence employees at all levels of the organization.

The Category Merchant Manager will have several key responsibilities within the 3rd party Marketplace business, including:

· Program management: Lead a variety of projects that impact Sports/Outdoors and the broader Hardlines organization.
· Customer experience: Innovate to drive the optimal customer experience across Sports and Outdoors products.
· Category strategy and ownership: Work closely with Leadership on planning and business strategy, drive best-in-class customer experience and maximize unit and revenue growth through timely analysis and action.
· Business development: Work closely with Marketplace teams to help recruit strategic sellers, selection, deploy new programs, and drive growth in the category.

The successful Category Merchant Manager must be able to:

· Have a complete understanding of customer needs, both existing and potential, and use that knowledge to deliver an unparalleled shopping experience
· Act as the business owner for the Sports and Outdoors 3P business, possessing a complete understanding of internal and external dynamics (e.g. being an advocate for business change; owning the category's forecasting, auditing, and reporting; driving strategic projects to achieve business objectives)
· Create business plans for new opportunities such as selection gaps, packaging and/or fulfillment improvements, and new site features, incorporating merchandising and pricing strategies where applicable
· Coordinate cross-functional teams to drive projects forward, and communicate with internal and external parties, while meeting tight deadlines for high visibility items
· Conduct financial analysis of business opportunities to meet and exceed revenue and profitability targets

Desired profile

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

BA/BS degree
· 3+ years of experience in buying, product management, project management, account management, financial analysis and/or marketing
· Strong numerical and analytical aptitude - must be highly proficient with Microsoft Excel
· Experience leading cross-functional projects
· Proactive attitude and willingness to roll up sleeves and dig deep to achieve goals
· Ability to think and react in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Detail-oriented
