DESCRIPTION

We're looking for a 3D Materials Designer who can take lead in developing a library of photo realistic smart materials based on real products. In addition, the Materials Designer must be able to work in a variety of areas such as 3D modeling, texturing, rendering environments, compositing, and lighting to impact exciting and innovative experiences in 3D. The ability to work within and across large, interdependent teams is a must, so the right person will have an implicit understanding of the balance needed between artistry, communication, and partnership. The role will primarily support computer vision and machine learning research and development efforts in order to scale 3D. The ideal candidate will be accomplished in working with a variety of 2D and 3D software packages and demonstrate the ability to raise the quality bar in modeling and texturing static 3D objects. You must be able to build a near-perfect materials from just a single or small set of photographs. The right candidate will be comfortable leading a team in a collaborative environment, working directly with technical program managers who will be building new tools and workflows, and consistently raising the bar on quality.

Key Responsibilities:
· Creation of materials for use in web-based, real-time applications, and photo realistic renderings
· Create complex substances in Substance Designer
· Create photorealistic materials in Substance Painter
· Participate in high-level discussion about adjusting or redesigning material editing workflow
· Maintain consistently high standards for accuracy, aesthetics, and productivity
· Continuously improve workflows and processes in an ambiguous environment
· Contribute to and create standard operating procedures and best practices for material creation and application
· Ability to coach/train other artists on the production floor
· Share best practices, identify process improvements and operational waste reduction

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

· Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
· Be able to excel in a fast-paced collaborative production environment
· Innovative and self-directed
· Script creation to automate common procedures in Substance Suite and Maya
· Experience in a high-paced production environment
· Experience creating photo realistic materials and models
· Experience managing digital assets for 3D materials library
· Understanding of PBR rendering
· Expert at Substance Designer and Substance Painter
· Be able to develop new innovative processes for capturing materials
· Be comfortable with visual pattern matching, trouble shooting, optimization, and contributing in a meaningful way with highly visible deliverables that can ship with daily builds
· Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal)

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

· Professional experience working in a fast-paced 3D production environment
· Must demonstrate an understanding of technical art production and end-to-end modeling, UV unwrapping, texturing, and rendering workflows
· Fast turnaround on smart materials from photographs or samples
· Must be very well versed in Maya, ZBrush, Substance Painter, Substance Designer, Photoshop and other relevant software
· Highly proficient in creating high quality, photo realistic materials from photograph references
· Ability to create a library of digital material assets
