INTERNSHIP: FlightRadar and Amadeus e-commerce
Internship London (Greater London) IT development
Job description
Major Responsibilities:
Amadeus e-Retail is the world's most widely used airline Internet Booking Engine (IBE).
Its award-winning user interface offers the best-in-class customer experience and helps airlines deliver all types of travel booking services including domestic and international flights, car rental, hotels and insurance. Amadeus e-Retail powers more than 260 websites for over 100 airlines in more than 110 countries around the world.
On sites such as Flightradar24.com you can follow airline traffic in real time on a map. You click on a flight and see the flight number, speed, height etc. The idea would be to do an internship that cross references data from Amadeus with this application, to be able to get much more information on each flight.
Example applications
As an internal tool for data visualization, it can be used as a fun tool to visualize what the team is working on.
• Display how many passengers in a flight booked their trip via Amadeus e-retail platform.
• Be able to highlight flights that contains bookings for which you, or someone in your team were involved in a bug investigation
Share your flight with friends
• Imagine that at the end of an e-Retail booking the traveller gets the choice to "share" his flight with his friends, via mail, twitter or Facebook.
• When the flight takes off the friends are notified (via email for example), with a link. The link leads to the map and the flight in question.
• The friends can also choose to be notified when his flight lands.
The intern will have to either use an available API to plot flights in real time on a map, or plot the flights on a map based on their scheduled arrival and departure times. Our office being located near Heathrow, an alternative can be to use a ADS-B receiver that would show the flights nearby that are landing or taking off.
Serving as a guide, here are the technologies that the intern may use:
• Frontend: HTML/JavaScript/CSS . UI framework to be selected by the candidate (AngularJS, ARIA Templates...).
• Backend: Java, J2EE, Application server (Weblogic, JBoss…)
• Google Maps API
• MS SQL/ MySQL Database
Duration: 6 to 12 months
