About the role:
You will be part of a global team that is responsible for the development, selection, installation and maintenance of the operating systems and databases in a large-scale complex global environment, and for providing technical support and guidance for these systems.
You will help to accelerate our teams’ ability to reliably and consistently deliver services and applications to our customers through standardized automation and deployment of managed services.
You’ll work on:
· Developing system related tools and applications to improve the usability and performance of the system.
· Investigating and planning the implementation of new software to increase the functionality and productivity of the system.
· Installing, customising, maintaining and supporting systems – throughout their entire lifecycle.
· Supporting our highly available platform with different technologies in order to reach our goal of moving to a cloud-based platform.
· Collaborating with Application Managers, Network, Storage and Database Administrators, and Project Managers on projects and providing technical support.
· Troubleshooting and resolving time and mission critical incidents and issues.
· Being proactive and innovative to drive continuous improvement and efficient technology solutions.
· Identifying problems and performing root cause analysis by using monitoring tools – at times, troubleshooting issues across the entire stack: hardware, software, application, and network.
· Participating in the building of tools and processes to support the infrastructure, leveraging scripting as required, and documenting configuration processes and policies.
What you will bring:
· Experience:
- Minimum 3-5 years in a Unix Systems Administration role (or similar position), working in a large-scale complex environment.
- Excellent understanding of software engineering methodologies and development lifecycle / open source development.
· Skills & Competencies:
- Excellent technical and communication skills, strong teamwork mindset, and the ability to manage projects
- Self-motivated, able to work under pressure and across teams and countries
- Willing to learn on the job and explore new technologies
- Strong focus on business outcomes and mindful of customer SLAs
- Able to participate in the 24/7 On Call roster of the team as required
· Proficiency in Technical and Troubleshooting Skills:
- Linux operating system
- Strong proficiency in scripting languages (Shell, Python, or Perl, etc), and an understanding of programming languages (C, C++, or Java, etc)
- Networking Communication Protocols and products (TCP/IP, DNS, SSH, HTTP/S)
- Strong skills in Fault tolerance, Redundancy, Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery concepts and technologies
- Understanding of relational database concepts (Oracle, MySQL, MariaDB, etc) and noSQL technologies (CouchBase, MongoDB, Hadoop, etc)
- Excellent understanding of Clustering concepts and industry standard products
- Understanding of deployment and infrastructure configuration management tools (Ansible, BladeLogic, CI/CD automation tools)
- Understanding of Cloud systems (OpenStack, Google Cloud, or AWS, etc), and virtualization technologies (VMware), along with a good understanding of Containers deployment technologies (Docker, LXC, etc),
