Alstom Transport employs approximately 2,000 people at over 20 different locations in the UK & Ireland. We are a major supplier & maintainer of tramways, main line trains, metro cars, electrical renovation & signalling systems.
Purpose of the job;
Design of Technical Solution based on the individual's technical discipline
Main duties and responsibilities will include;
· To work closely with railway clients world-wide, examining the commercial and engineering advantages of enhancing the traction packages of existing fleets
· To target solutions for identified markets with flexibility for individual customisation and carry out cost evaluation in support of sales activity
· To provide design expertise in developing standardised and project specific solutions as part of the tender process by defining the scope of supply and generating a written technical summary
· To manage technical aspects of contracts during the implementation phase of refurbishment
· To deliver technical assistance to site teams responsible for refurbishment
· To understand Customer needs through a knowledge of their existing traction equipment performance
· To demonstrate refurbishment advantages by preparing and presenting an Engineering Scope and Cost estimate
· To analyse the cost / benefits of refurbishments in terms of maintenance, reliability and failure and provide an analysis of day-to-day system / product running costs
· To monitor progress of allocated projects against a time plan and budget
· To define system functionality against Customer specifications
· To keep informed with evolution technology in relation to our product range
· To develop a brief for the commercial team and provide solutions for market opportunities against Customer enquiries
· To cost evaluate system and product life-cycle costs and other cost-evaluations as required
· To co-ordinate technical activity for elements of a project or work being undertaken
· To deliver appropriate technical assistance, as required, in support of site team requests determining priorities and approach
Desired profile

Candidate requirements;
· GCSE (or equivalent) in Mathematics and English Language as a minimum
· A relevant Engineering Degree (Preferably Mechanical/Electrical/Electronic)
· Experience within a major Railway Industry organisation
· Must have a comprehensive knowledge of the design, development and application of traction drive systems and/or it's sub elements
· Should be computer literate and generally familiar with engineering software applications
· Preferably, Alstom corporate knowledge
· Preferably, good general management knowledge (Finance / Operations / Business Excellence / Commercial / Legal)
· Practical experience of the provision of solutions / applications engineering from a system perspective
· Multi-national experience dealing with different cultures
· Proven Project Engineering experience with large industrial groups / projects
· Experience of working with high value projects (£m)
