Test Engineering Technician

Purpose of the Job:

The primary focus of this position is to deliver testing and commissioning tools, simulators and infrastructure (in accordance with customer acceptance criteria). Establish the testing processes / procedures with the objectives of standardization, automation and improved test coverage. And to design and improve the testability of the products.

Reports to the Test Engineering Manager.

·  Develop Occupational Health Standards including monitoring protocols.
·  Develop Baseline risk assessment and maintain.
·  Assist in ensuring a stressor free workplace.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

·  To acquire a clear and exhaustive understanding of the Customer Acceptance Criteria.
·  Manage the development and supply of test procedures, infrastructure and equipment for the RS site.
·  Ensure that tool configuration and test procedures are managed during the full project life cycle.
·  Define the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Monitoring time and deviations.
·  Continuously optimizing SOP’s.
·  Implement REX from other Testing & Commissioning activities on the project.
·  Ensure a good working relationship with the Engineering Project team, Logistics, Quality, EHS and Industrial.
·  Support the T&C Operations team, for the implementation and execution of the Testing Procedures.
·  Implement methods, tools and best practices in accordance with other global Alstom Transport units.
·  Ensures T&C procedures comply with EHS Policies and Site EHS Management System.
·  Participate in EHS activities on the shop floor.
·  Other job functions as required by management.

Candidate Requirements

Educational Requirements:

·  BSc (Electrical)(Eng) / MSc (Electrical)(Eng) - With an interest in Power Electronics or
·  BTech (Electrical) with 10 years C&I, VSD experience.
·  A recently qualified, dynamic individual who is looking to enter the job market.

Desired Knowledge / Experience & Behaviour:

·  Ability to read electrical schematics and to write application software (if required).
·  Have a basic understanding of earthing & bonding, protection; instrumentation (will be beneficial).
·  IT proficient.
·  Ability to integrate across multi-disciplinary electrical activities (MV, Control & Instrumentation, Protection, Software).
·  Willingness to accept new roles as the project enters the various stages of the life-cycle (pre/post serial go).
·  Strong customer orientation and focus (internal suppliers - engineering, industrial quality, EHS, production, training).
·  Teamwork.

The successful candidate will be Assisting with testing in Lapa Brazil on a Long Term Assignment (9-12 months), and then production site (Dunnottar / Nigel). Displacement for short durations (1 month) to other foreign Alstom sites in order to assist and gain knowledge.
