Role Summary
 
Alstom has an opening for a Material Engineering Team Leader, in its Grain Valley, MO or Warrensburg, MO location. The Material Engineering Team Leader, TIS North America demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for the Material Engineering team. In this role you will utilize your experience and expertise to solve problems, develop and execute objectives for yourself and the team reporting to you, and have the ability to effect short-term and long-term business goals. You will lead a team of 6+ engineers each responsible for the material definition and tracking according to project schedules for all project materials, including wayside signaling, onboard systems, etc. The successful candidate will have the ability to resolve issues through immediate action while maintaining responsibility of short-term as well as strategic planning.
 
Essential Responsibilities  

In addition you will:

·  Provide leadership and technical direction for assigned organizational responsibilities, programs, and personnel including contractors
·  Provide support, recommendations, and align business goals with Project Management, Scheduling, Manufacturing, and the other Engineering teams
·  Promote technical excellence within own section and support groups through design / technical review participation, lessons learned application, and technical innovation / growth fostering
·  Establish and maintain relationships with required external and internal interfaces to ensure that customer requirements are understood and being achieved
·  Establish / modify / monitor overall program and project requirements, timing, and resources of own section and support groups to meet / exceed business objectives and goals
·  Own the Material Engineering process, constantly improve it and align it with the regional and global organization 
·  Effectively communicate technical aspects of the section activities vertically and horizontally in the organization
·  Ensure positive actions are taken to encourage growth, technical development, and improved interpersonal skills
·  Implement initiatives to continuously improve the responsiveness of the section / organization to customer/business needs
·  Ensure compliance initiatives and training requirements are implemented

Qualifications/ Requirements 

·  Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Physical science
·  At least 3 additional years of experience in a leadership role within an engineering and/or Material logistics environment

Desired Characteristics

·  3 years specific experience in the railroad signaling field
·  Technical knowledge of product lines and associated integrated rail signaling systems
·  Proven Leadership skills and ability to effectively manage a matrix team / organization
·  Sense of urgency in dealing with issues and tasks
·  Ability to anticipate events and develop adaptive strategies / remedies
·  Strong customer mindset
·  Prior experience in system delivery of complex rail signaling systems is preferred
·  Ability to drive and manage change in a dynamic environment
·  Exceptional oral and written communication skills
·  Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
