Job description
Alstom Transport employs approximately 2,000 people at over 20 different locations in the UK & Ireland. We are a major supplier & maintainer of tramways, main line trains, metro cars, electrical renovation & signalling systems.
Reporting to the System Support Technical Leader you will be responsible for providing technical expertise and support to the depot trams in delivery of Alstom's contractual obligations for maintenance and service of Virgin West Coast 390 stock.
Main duties and responsibilities will include:
· Providing technical support to the depot teams in the provision of fault-finding expertise and assistance with train repair activities.
· Partaking in gathering required data downloads on critical performance systems at all TCC's.
· Arranging and undertaking test runs to assist in fault finding and resolution of faults, in particular the close-out of repeat failures.
· Carrying out fault finding and investigating intermittent faults on vehicles either on depot or in service.
· Carrying out Testing & Re-Commissioning activities on vehicles and trains in accordance with pre-written test and commissioning procedures.
· Functionally testing train borne systems with minimal supervision using a variety of techniques and methods, including the use of computer based diagnostics systems.
· Investigation of technical problems as instructed by central systems support team.
· Reviewing and rectifying test specifications and documentation for functional tests.
· Assisting with component change outs, and failure reporting for central systems support and reliability growth teams.
· Assisting with skills development within depots and traincare points.
· Investigating technical problems as instructed by central systems support team.
· Assisting with the validation of documentation issued in support of maintenance and repair activities, special checks, modifications and experiments.
· Assisting in the validation of Maintenance Schedule amendments and other technical instructions.
· Assisting with the validation of locally produced technical instructions.
· Ensuring work is performed in a safe and effective manner in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974), Electricity at Work Regulations (1989), Railway Group Standards, and relevant ALSTOM Procedures.
Desired profile
Candidate requirements:
· Engineering Qualification such as HNC Electrical / Electronic
· Practical experience and a sound knowledge of mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering aspects of modern Electric Multiple Units.
· Technical experience and expertise in mechanical and electrical engineering.
· Good verbal and written communication skills
· IT skills – competent user of Personal Computer, including office packages, e-mail and intranet
