Deputy Project Manager – Sydney Light Rail

Purpose of the Job

The role of the Deputy Project Manager is to work in conjunction with the Project Manager to plan, execute, and finalize projects according to strict deadlines and within QCD commitment in line with the contractual requirements and Alstom Transport sector processes. This includes acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. The Project Manager will also define the project’s objectives and oversee quality control throughout its life cycle.

The role:

Integration and Scope Management

·  Contribute to project plans and associated communications documents
·  Liaise with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis
·  Effectively communicate project expectations to team members and internal stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion
·  Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and internal stakeholders.
·  Define project success criteria and disseminate them to involved parties throughout project life cycle.
·  Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel
·  Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.
·  Contribute to develop and deliver progress reports, and project presentations as and when needed
·  Determine the frequency and content of status reports from the project team, analyze results, and troubleshoot problem areas
·  Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential roadblocks, and devise contingency plans

Time management

·  Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools
·  Track project milestones and deliverables.
·  Identify and manage project dependencies/interfaces between internal stakeholders and resolve/monitor critical path

Cost and finance management

·  Draft and submit budget proposals, and recommend subsequent budget changes where necessary.

Quality management

·  Ensure the correct DFQ cycles are put in place in line with the project milestones and Gate review meetings are held on time.

Human Resource management

·  Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals
·  Determine and assess need for additional staff and/or consultants and make the appropriate recruitments if necessary during project cycle
·  Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work

Communication Management

·  Ensure internal and external communication rules are defined, known and deployed by the relevant stakeholders

Candidate Requirements:

·  3 to 5 years recognised experience in Project management within an international company
·  Technical background in Signalling and Communications
·  Operational effectiveness: Execute and delivers – Identifies the critical task & resources necessary to achieve the desired objectives, takes action to ensure execution, delivery and follow-up
·  Winning & influencing: Changes the opinion of others such as customers, colleagues, subordinates. Approach discussions/negotiations with the objective of achieving a win-win outcome. Ability to communicate to different levels
·  Risk management: Provides early warnings as soon as unforeseen problems arise, to ensure timely corrective action can be taken
·  Teamwork & Accountability: Delegates, provides encouragement and support to people in accepting responsibility with accountability
·  Empowerment: Creates an environment where individuals actively take initiative and ownership
·  Communicating with transparency: Delivers clear messages
·  Excellent Microsoft Office & MS Excel skills
·  Knowledge of Alstom tools and processes is desired
·  Knowledge of Primavera P6 is desired
