OBJECTIVE OF THE MISSION :
The mission of the volunteer is to be the traction representative in the different locations foreseen for the validation of the first High Speed Trains. The volunteer will participate in the dedicated train test missions (several weeks) with the Traction Validation teams from Tarbes.
Besides these missions, the volunteer will be the local Traction referent to support train validation teams present in the USA. He will report to Tarbes design team all the events related to the traction drive.
In partnership with the project engineering manager (PrEM) and the traction system engineer (TrSE), based in our Tarbes facilities (France), the missions of the internship are described in the following chapters.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES :
Traction validation teams from Tarbes will take part in missions to the USA to perform train tests during dedicated shifts. These missions will be either on a test track, or on AMTRAK customer track.
The volunteer will participate in these missions for:
- Helping Tarbes validation teams during instrumentation preparation
- Taking advantage of Tarbes team availability to improve his knowledge of the traction drive
- Being able to repeat some simple validation tests when the Tarbes validation teams are not present
The volunteer will help the Train validation teams (i.e. not Tarbes personnel) in case of issue(s) linked to the traction drive. He will deploy all investigation tools as his disposal to define if the issue is internal or external to the traction drive.
Some failures of components internal to the traction drive can occur when the train is in use (during test sequences or in normal operation). The volunteer will support troubleshooting activities by:
- Being the interface between the commissioning & warranty team in the depot and the TrSE in Tarbes.
- Orienting the troubleshooting based on information retrieved from the control electronics (event logs or perturbographs) in order to identify the failed component.
- Ensuring that the components are only removed when necessary (for the right reason).
- Performing, when needed, measurements on the train (through perturbographs or instrumentation) in order to investigate a failure or in order to confirm the resolution of an issue.
- Ensuring that the troubleshooting manual is used (and to makie proposal for improvements to the manual).
The volunteer will issue a weekly report to the PrEM / TrSE.
CANDIDATE'S PROFILE :
- Masters degree in electrical engineering or power electronics
- Good level of french and English
- Experience in rolling stock is welcomed but not mandatory
- To demonstrate courage and conviction
- To be autonomous in an environment where there are many unknown quantities (train availability, interface with local staff)
- To work in a thorough and organized manner in order to assure traceability.
- To remain focused on the factual data.
