The Impact You Will Have
The Senior Sustainability Governance Expert supports the implementation of Allianz Commercial’s Sustainability strategy as well as the business integration of Allianz Group's sustainability goals. The role will be instrumental to respond to the regulatory, industry and non-financial reporting requirements for the Corporate & Specialty insurance sector and to drive Sustainability integration into core business considerations and processes. A specific focus is on the business integration along with Allianz Group's Standard for Integration of Sustainability, including but not limited to the Sustainability Due Diligence, referral and exemption requirements as well as the implementation of the EU's Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).
Some of your specific responsibilities could include:
Lead the execution of the Sustainability Business Strategy, collaborating with business and finance functions across Allianz Commercial, Allianz Group, and other entities to promote best practice sharing and consistency in sustainability efforts.
Conduct detailed sustainability risk assessments at transaction level across different lines of business. Identify, quantify, and prioritize material sustainability risks, including climate, environmental, human rights, social and governance risks.
Assist Underwriting in implementing sustainability policies and regulatory requirements, manage the communication and implementation of the Sustainability framework, and support governance and oversight for Corporate & Specialty Lines of Business.
Develop and manage frameworks for sustainability-related risk evaluation and referrals, leading the referral process with thorough analysis and decision-making, including handling escalations and exemption requests.
Serve as Allianz Commercial’s representative on expert panels both within and outside Allianz, and deliver targeted training sessions to internal teams such as Underwriting, Market Management, and Operations to enhance sustainability knowledge and practices.
Oversee the integration of sustainability requirements and portfolio steering, ensuring alignment with regulatory and Allianz internal standards, including EU Taxonomy and EU Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive.
Guide and support key sustainability projects, such as materiality analysis and CSRD implementation, while ensuring effective monitoring and data integration. Collaborate on developing ESG/Sustainability analytics, KPIs, and tools with relevant stakeholders.
What You’ll Bring to the Role
University degree (Bachelor or Master)
Familiarity with ESG risk rating methodologies, data providers, and analytical tools.
Experience in ESG & Sustainability data and market research for commercial and finance sectors. Familiarity with reporting & visualization tools.
Strong understanding of sustainability regulatory frameworks and standards (e.g., TCFD, ISSB, EU Taxonomy, CSRD).
In-depth knowledge & experience in sustainable finance and insurance.
Demonstrated expertise in assessing ESG risks, including climate, environmental, human rights, and governance topics
Knowledge how to translate complex sustainability data and regulations into practical business decision-making guidance
Ability to express ideas and messages clearly, both written and verbally to "sell" a winning story
Proven track record managing complex stakeholder engagements and advising senior executives
Ability to negotiate and manage conflicting priorities of various parties
Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving capabilities
Experience in applying artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML)
Excellent spoken and written English and German skills, and fluency in another European language is a plus.
