As the Senior AI Software Engineer (f/m/d) in the team, you will be primarily responsible for the design and development of full-stack Generative AI (GenAI) and Machine Learning (ML) applications for a wide range of use cases in the Asset Management space. This role works closely with domain experts to understand business needs and translate them into technical requirements for development.

By leveraging Generative AI, you will take a technical leadership role in driving the development of innovative solutions and providing technical guidance to the development team where necessary. Within a central AI team in collaboration with other engineers & architects, the Sr. AI Software Engineer (f/m/d) leads the development of prototypes to assess technology readiness and suitability for specific applications, ultimately guiding the scaling of the most promising prototypes into production-ready applications and platforms.

A secondary part of the role is to develop AI engineering capability to meet the growing demand for AI. This involves researching new technologies, defining technical standards, rolling out templates, frameworks & best practices such as LLMOps/MLOps together with its enablement across the organization via developer communities and outreach initiatives.

This position will be based in Frankfurt or Munich.

What you will do

• Provide technical leadership by defining and sharing engineering best practices such as MLOps/LLMOps and ensuring company policies/procedures are adhered to for the AI solutions the team manages
• Mentor & co-ordinate activities of junior AI engineers
• Development of full-stack solutions for GenAI/ML applications, integrating both frontend and backend components to deliver robust and scalable solutions
• Work closely with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and translate these into technical requirements for application development
• Ideation and development of solutions and co-creation with development teams to transition prototypes into production where viable
• AI enablement and upskilling within AllianzGI through consultations, training, and communities with engineers, citizen developers, etc.
• Share best practices and content around AI Engineering and AI in general, with the objective of accelerating the adoption of AI across the company
• Champion responsible, secure, and compliant AI
• Work with and make recommendations to leadership teams regarding AI strategy, roadmap, and buy-versus-build decisions
• Research and share the latest industry trends and technologies to help foster AllianzGI relevant innovation and business transformation

What you bring

Education

• University degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Machine Learning, Data Science or related fields

Experience

• A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in full stack application development is required
• Ideally industry experience in Investment Banking/Asset Management
• A minimum of three (3) years’ industry experience in GenAI and ML based App development
• A minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with agile teams, required

Knowledge & Hardskills

• Proficiency in Python, including experience with libraries and frameworks relevant to ML and GenAI application development (e.g., LangChain, FastAPI, Semantic Kernel, and AutoGen)
• Detailed understanding and hands-on experience with large language models (LLMs), AI agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) architecture, embedding techniques, prompt engineering, fine-tuning, multi-choice prompts (MCPs), LLMOps, MLOps, vibecoding, and reinforcement learning
• Experience with modern web development frameworks and languages, including React, TypeScript, and Node.js, with a background in building and maintaining both front-end and back-end applications
• Experience working with production-grade vector databases (e.g., Azure AI Search, MongoDB, Cosmos DB, pgvector, Chroma, or Milvus) for efficient storage and retrieval of embeddings
• Ideally experienced with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) and Cloud native services in Azure
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL)
• Experience with Agile development and DevOps practices using tools such as Harness, GitHub, JFrog, Jira, and Datadog
• Ability to create unit tests, integration tests using common testing frameworks (e.g., pytest, Playwright)
• Ideally knowledge and strong understanding of component-based architecture, state management and intuitive UX design principles

• Ability to translate and drive conceptual ideas to technical requirements for application development
