Role description

There is an exciting opportunity to join our successful Property & Casualty team as an Existing Business Underwriter. As an integral member of the team your role and skillset will be dedicated to the continued development of our ever growing account through the retention of existing business, renewals and mid term adjustments, ensuring we maintain a World class service. With ambitious targets for 2024 and beyond you will be a key team player helping us to reach our goals. 


You must be able to proactively build long-term, sustainable business relationships in order to engender customer loyalty and achieve profitable growth in line with our ambition. Demonstrating consistently high standards of behaviour across all elements of the role, you will assist in supporting the national strategic objectives within the Region.


This position will be based from our Chelmsford office on a hybrid working model where you will be in the office for 3 days a week (4 days a week during onboarding and training).



About you 

We are looking for a self-motivated and talented individual to join our successful Existing Business Team in Chelmsford. You will be part of a close-knit team that works well together, to consistently deliver strong results. We are looking for someone that has an excellent knowledge of the Property and Casualty market.


Your role will also include, developing broker relationships (including regular broker visits) and collaborating with your colleagues in other departments to support our ambitious growth plans.

·  Negotiate within authority and referring where appropriate to maximise customer growth including persuading, influencing and convincing customers of the benefits of an opposed course of action.
·  Provide suggestions to continuously improve the business in an ever-changing environment
·  Track record as a confident negotiator.
·  Property,  Casualty and speciality lines market/product awareness
·  Support the wider teams by being proactive, enthusiastic and by challenging yourself to go out of your comfort zone
·  Commitment to undertaking and progressing towards CII qualifications
·  Strong technical underwriting skills in Commercial Property and Casualty.
·  Good trading skills and a confident negotiator, with proven experience in handling large cases.
·  The ability to build, develop and maintain positive broker relationships.
·  A good team player, supportive to others with an enthusiastic and positive attitude.
