Felling, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear
£14,910 - £21,300 per annum + benefits
AkzoNobel Speciality Coatings has an exciting new vacancy for the role of a Technical assistant within our Yacht R&D Centre based in Felling, Gateshead, Tyne & Wear.

This role is mainly laboratory based and focuses on activities within coatings related projects as part of a highly motivated R&D team. It brings the opportunity to develop your skills and gain a fundamental understanding of coatings requirements for use on pleasure crafts and superyachts.
Working at our R&D Centre in Felling, you will get involved in a range of projects. You will find yourself supporting the current product range and technologies.
The key responsibilities and tasks for this role will include:
§ Carry out experimental and standard paint manufacture, QA testing and application under the direction of the line manager to ensure work/project needs are achieved
§ Record data from any activity as required by supervisor. All records must be clear and accurate with any deviations from standard practice clearly noted
§ Convey ideas and opinions clearly and positively to others
§ Maintain laboratory records to a high standard which meet with ISO 9001:2000
§ Work safely
We don't expect successful candidates to walk into this role and be fully prepared to take on every task. We will provide on the job training and guidance which is tailored to support your development. However, we do require individuals who possess the following skills :
§ Good communication skills both written and verbal
§ Ability to results and data and provide feedback to supervisor regarding anomalous events
§ A self-motivated nature and an enthusiastic attitude
§ Ability to work as part of a team and to deadlines
§ Good organisation and planning skills
§ Must be able to work accurately and methodically
§ A willingness to learn and understand new technologies
§ Familiarity with use of Microsoft applications, especially Excel
The successful applicant will be educated to GCSE or equivalent with good English, Maths and science related subjects.
Desirable requirements:
§ Experience in the manufacture of small production batches of paint
§ Experience in the use of conventional spray application
§ A driving license is preferred.
