Job description

The AkzoNobel Surface Chemistry Personal Care business operates globally and provides its customers with state of the art performance data and formulation recommendations. The successful candidate should have a background in chemistry and preferably some experience in preparing and evaluating complex formulations. Experience in the Personal Care Area is a plus.

Key Objectives/Principal Accountabilities

• Provide technical support to the business via telephone, field, and lab including; laboratory work, gathering information, travel, etc.

• Performs and reports experiments necessary to attain the objectives of the business.

• Supports the incremental development of new products

• Interacts with Synthesis, Analytical and GRD groups in developing new products and resolving customer concerns.

• Maintains a laboratory notebook, prepares monthly project reports, conducts literature searches and maintains application databases

• Executes complex experiments, analyzes the data for accuracy, interprets the data, draws conclusions based on scientific standards and makes recommendations on the next steps

• Leads small to medium sized projects

• Maintains company safety standards and supports company values.

Functional Responsibilities/Network (kindly limit to a maximum of five)

• Will be a member of the regional Personal Care Applications Team
• Will be a member of the Bridgewater Site RD&I group
• Will provide technical support to all Personal Care Sales and Marketing personnel

Desired profile

Functional Competencies
• B.S/M.S. in Chemistry or a related field + 1-3 years of relevant experience
• Experience in Personal Care formulations is a plus.
• Experience in leave-on skin care/sun care, cleansing, and conditioning is a plus.
• There is a strong preference for a practical person who is hands –on in the laboratory and who possesses good interpersonal skills enabling them to interact with sales staff and customers.
• Strong work ethic, good oral and written communication skills, and proficient in Microsoft Office programs
