Job description
Carries out prescribed procedures to generate information for plant quality analysis and/or other duties as assigned.
· Assembles and operates equipment and executes standard procedures and methods for analysis.
· Notes accurately actions and records observations, as required.
· Function as shift leader as assigned coordinating shift work load activities
· Reports results back to requesters - production, logistics, management, using appropriate approved methods.
· Participates in safety and quality activities of the group.
· Maintains a neat, clean and safe work area and documents results according to standards.
· Orders and monitors equipment and supplies as needed.
· Functions independently in establishing workflow and sample priority.
· Demonstrates ability to maintain and repair equipment, routine troubleshooting.
· Handles hazardous wastes in accordance with all state, federal and local regulations.
· Report environmental upsets to environmental department.
· Understand and help implement the Pasadena Functional Chemicals Site Operating Policy and Objectives which includes MTQ and ISO/RC 14001.
· Be aware of potential health, safety, security and environmental impacts in own area of responsibility and the consequences if an upset occurs.
· Understand and implement any parts of the Pasadena Functional Environmental Compliance Plan and Waste Management Plan that apply to your area of responsibility.
· Participate in the site"s on-going Pollution Prevention Process.
· Ensure proper disposal of chemicals and laboratory waste, as per Chemical Hygiene Plan.
Desired profile
· AA/BA/BS Degree in chemistry or related field, or minimum of 16 hrs college chemistry
· 0-3 years experience in analytical or process environment operating similar equipment with BS; 6 months to 2 years at Akzo Nobel.
· Knowledge of chemical plant production, logistics, an analytical and technical needs
· Computer literate
· Able to read, write and communicate in English
· Must be able to wear respirator
· Must be able to wear steel toed shoes and safety glasses every day in the lab and hard hat when going into the plant.
