Assistant Manager Engineering

Job description

Job Purpose :

To establish, implement and maintain Engineering & HSES processes and systems; and continually improve effectiveness in sustaining Engg & HSES standards within the framework of and compliance to Group Guidelines for Paints, local statutory requirements and the MPW site vision and objectives.

Job Dimensions:

· Management of the Engg standards & equipments for the site operations.

· Management of MPW site systems.

· Implementation of Projects at site with full compliance to the Engg standards and recommendations.

· Process improvement and HSE&S

Principal Accountabilities:

· Drive Engineering standards across the manufacturing unit at MPW
· Incidents and complaints are recorded, reported and investigated as per the Group requirements
· Ensure monitoring systems are defined and HSE&S reporting is done in line with Audit Programs
· Define the Communication Channels on HSE&S Issues
· Maintain oversight of Management of Change Process and updating of Plant Dossier
· Arrange to provide safe plant & equipment operating instructions
· Arrange to identify, satisfy and validate the Training Needs
· Maintain oversight of compliance to the Paints Engineering Procedure
· Manage Environment performance to contemporary requirements
· Drive the Site PMOS / Cell PMOS process and the Shop-floor meeting of Coordinators
· Drive the LSR (Life Saving Rules) & other HSES practices related to Engineering and HSES
· Facilitate the drawing up of Improvement Plan and implementation of the same.
· Oversight of Systems to ensure Integrity of Physical assets
· Employing competent contractors working to acceptable standards.
· Ensure that Company"s activities do not compromise the safety and health of contractors or the environment at large.
· Function as Management representative on MRC
· Statutory Compliance of Pollution Control Devices
· Drive the Following Process for Mohali works :
· Engg and HSE&S Documentation & Records
· Management Review & HSE&S Improvement Plan
· Auditing Conformance to Standards
· Ergonomics
· Conservation of Hearing
· Emergency Plans – On Site
· Management of Change & HSE&S aspects of Capital Projects
· Fire safety
· Isolation of Equipment
· Control of Work
· Area Classification
· Control of sources of Ignition
· Leak Prevention and Management of Open Ends / Spills Logs
· Plant Overhauls as Major Overhaul Manager
· Controlled equipment
· Critical equipment
· Electrical Equipment
· Land and Ground water Protection

Special Features of the Job:

· MPW is a key site for Paints Business in India catering to Decorative and Vehicle Refinish SMU's hence the Engg & HSE systems need close & careful monitoring to ensure a high degree of reliability in operations.

· Mohali Plant is based on the cellular manufacturing structure, where people are adequately trained to run production lines and simultaneously carry out the preventive maintenance jobs. Job holder must posses experience in working with the people together to proactively think, nurture and implement good Engg and HSE&S systems by further developing people

· The jobholder is required to have knowledge of the ISO & LEAN systems. This helps in having a process orientation and is tuned in line with the continual improvement philosophy of the MPW site.

· The MPW site is investing in capacity expansion projects to augment the capacity in excess. The job holder should therefore have prior experience in Project Management should have handled project in one of the prior experience.
