Job Description

A vacancy for a F&DT Engineer for Laser Shock Peening (d/f/m) has arisen within Airbus (Commercial Aircraft) in Hamburg Finkenwerder at the earliest possible start date. You will join the department 'Airframe Non Specific Design Work Research & Technology' (NSDW R&T).

The department is focused on research activities on materials & processes, calculation methods, 3D printing and system installation. In this framework, it develops methods to calculate fatigue phenomena and to improve fatigue and damage tolerance behavior of components. Laser Shock Peening is a process to sustainably improve the fatigue behavior of metallic materials and components.

The department belongs to the R&T organization Airframe Research & Technology (engineering for aircraft structures), which is responsible for the management and implementation of research projects. This organization is divided into 5 departments with special disciplines: fuselage, wing, tail & tail plane, engine/propulsion integration - and the department NSDW R&T.

Tasks & Accountabilities:

As F&DT Engineer for Laser Shock Peening (d/f/m) you are responsible for leading and driving R&T projects mainly in the area of Laser Shock Peening. You own the technical expertise but also the project coordination and its budget planning. The aim is to develop and industrialize a portable equipment to be used for aeronautical structures in Maintenance and Repair Organizations.

Therefore your main tasks and responsibility will include:

·  You will coordinate and manage R&T Projects to mature and industrialize Laser Shock Peening technology used for aeronautical structures
·  You are responsible for the project including planning/tracking, budget as well as coordination of external partners, subcontractors and work packages
·  You report the finance analysis, project spending and manage budget transfer across Airbus domains
·  You asses and analyze experimental test data from standard coupon test program up to large scale (e.g. full scale aircraft component) including Fatigue and Damage Tolerance simulations
·  You will be in charge to coordinate and supervise the development of Laser Shock Peening (LSP) manufacturing cell at the ZAL GmbH facility in Hamburg incl. integration of LSP equipment
·  You will support the project leader on other R&T projects such as the Cold Spray technology (besides the Laser Shock Peening)
·  The preparation of Project Executive Communication Pack to be delivered to Major Project Stakeholder

This role will involve some travel for business (once a month) worldwide and as such you must be able to travel accordingly.

Required skills:

You are right candidate, if you have the following skills and experience:

·  You are educated in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or similar (i.e. PhD) and you bring a minimum 5 years’ experience within the Airbus Environment
·  You have extensive experience in F&DT, Laser Shock Peening Process, metallic materials and fracture mechanics
·  You have strong Project Management skills, that is leading also multi-disciplinary projects
·  Knowledge in tools such as MS Office ( macro writing in excel, Abaqus and/or ISAMI are a must )
·  You are a very good communicator and you have the ability to work effectively with all kind of disciplines
·  Your previous experience abroad and exposure to an international work environment is a must
·  You are a proactive and creative person and you are able to work in a team and as an individual
·  You bring negotiation level in English , intermediate level in German is a plus
