Airbus Helicopters is the world’s largest helicopter manufacturer and the company’s site at Oxford Airport is Britain’s civil helicopter hub.

AHUK offers considerable experience in helicopter sales, bespoke completions, maintenance and spares support.  Its in-house engineering capabilities include design, customisation, installation, flight-testing and certification, as well as technical support, maintenance, training and the supply of spares for civil and military applications.

AHUK is the MoD’s chosen provider of helicopters and maintenance for its Defence Helicopter Flying school (referred to as MFTS) located in RAF Shawbury (Shropshire) and RAF Valley (Anglesey).

Based at RAF Benson, Oxford, we are seeking two new Sheet Metal Workers to join our installations team. The successful candidates will be given on the job training from a structures specialist and once trained and competent, the candidate will gain authorisation to certify repair work IAW approved data. Main duties will be to carry out repairs to helicopter structures, interpret design drawings, manufacture parts from sheet metal in both a production and prototype environment, remove and refit panels and cowlings, Install brackets, doubler plates, etc. in association with the embodiment of modifications.

The main responsibilities of the post holder will be:

·  Carry out structural repairs
·  Manufacture parts from sheet material
·  Assemble parts manufactured by a subcontractor
·  Accomplishment of work for the Installation Supervisor or Certifying Engineer.
·  Work closely with the design office
·  Work to high standards to ensure continued safe operation of the aircraft.
·  Manufacture parts in accordance with design data
·  Also required to assist in day to day running of the aircraft Hangar, including aircraft movement and general housekeeping responsibilities.

The KPI for the role is to:

·  Carry out work to the specified target hours given on each work order

The post holder would ideally have the following Knowledge and Skills:

ESSENTIAL

·  Must have thorough knowledge of mechanical fabrication principles
·  Previous experience of carrying out aircraft repairs and modifications

DESIRABLE

·  Composite manufacturing techniques
·  Experience of composite repairs
·  Experience of helicopter systems
·  Knowledge of EASA 21G
·  Work with MS Word & MS Excel
·  Good communication skills both verbal and written

We require the post holder to have the following Education, Qualifications or special training:

ESSENTIAL

·  Apprenticeship in sheet metal fabrication or related discipline.

DESIRABLE

·  Experience on Airbus Helicopter types.
·  Aircraft Modification experience

The post holder should have the following experience:

ESSENTIAL

·  Be able to read a detailed mechanical drawing and associated data
·  Need to have recent experience of manufacturing parts from sheet material to close tolerances
·  Ability to manufacture brackets from sheet material
·  Recent experience of on and off aircraft riveting techniques

DESIRABLE

·  Experience of Airbus Helicopters products.

Other requirements include:

·  Required to work shifts as part of normal working routine.
·  Occasional need to travel to visit sub-contractors or other AH facilities
·  Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
·  Ability to work effectively in a high pressure environment.

·  Sense of humour, ability to offer alternative solutions and a general sense of optimism.
