Airbus, the world's leading Aircraft manufacturer has exciting new job opportunities to join its Engineering teams at Filton, Bristol.
Core activities include the design, engineering and support for Airbus wings, fuel systems and landing gear Integration. We develop our people to work on systems, structures and aerodynamics research, development and test facilities.

An opportunity has arisen to join the Airbus Systems & Reliability team in Filton, as an Expert in the field of Safety Compliance of Hydro-mechanical Systems.

The Safety & Reliability team are key in ensuring that systems architectures and their integration on the aircraft comply with the latest airworthiness regulations and safety processes. The team of around 50 safety engineers is based in five separate locations around Europe and is accountable for the safety activities (functional and physical) for all aircraft systems.

As a Safety Expert, you will be the technical lead for the safety activities in the design and continued airworthiness of Landing Gear and Fuel Systems. You will also provide expertise support for a number of other systems whose safety activities are carried out in the European based teams.

Desired profile

Tasks & accountabilities

o Undertake hazard identification associated risk assessments and produce safety case reports
o Technical approval of the Uk teams deliverables
o Advise key stakeholders e.g. Chief Engineer, Design Team Leaders on risks that will affect the safety of the aircraft and work closely with these stakeholders to manage these risks
o Support the various certification managers in meetings with authorities e.g. EASA
o Influence systems design and in-service solutions through understanding how failures will affect systems operation
o Ensure that applied safety methods and processes are compliant to the latest internal and external standards
o Consolidate the safety ‘validation and verification' activities at systems level
o Drive ‘best-practice' improvement across all safety teams
o Influence and support the evolution of methods and tools used by the teams
o Contribute to the Safety R&T strategy and be the technical lead on Uk based R&T projects
o Build and maintain a strong network within the Airbus expert and design community
o Provide Safety coaching and training for team members and systems designers

Required skills

As the successful candidate, you must be able to demonstrate the following:

o Engineering degree
o Significant experience in safety engineering applied to complex aircraft systems
o Practical experience in applying functional methods described in ARP4761 i.e. FHA, PSSA, SSA, CMA
o Knowledge and practical experience in compliance demonstration with applicable airworthiness regulations (CS/FAR 25.1309)
o Awareness of safety methods for ‘Particular Risk Analysis' and ‘Zonal Safety Analysis'
o Good communication skills
o Strong team player
